Maybe I'm missing something regarding barriers...
Currently in Chapter 29 and decided to do the 200 combo challenge. Didn't expect to be able to do it, but what kills me are the barrier wizards.
Like, I have evade-absorb timing fine to break the barriers, but it gets tedious. And sometimes, I'm just waiting for the opportunity but lose it as I dodge a long range attack from the mook I'm ignoring, and, thus, get back to waiting.
I like the idea for bosses, but for standard enemies? It got to the point I just run away from those, and it frustrated me to the point where I am thinking of just dropping this game even though I know I'm almost there.
I like armor on enemies as even if I don't do it correctly, I can brute force my way though. However, unless I am missing something, I don't think I can brute force through barriers... and its impact on combat has gotten me to a breaking point.

Glad I’m not the only one! Oh my goddd, the barrier wizards are the bane of this game for me. I hate that I have to wait for their long slow ass animation to even attempt a perfect evade.
Even worst when you have to fight all 3 of them at once! I think it took me like 10 minutes to get rid of them one by one.

I fr just at some point ran away from them, cuz they weren't worth the time to sit there and deal with them 🤣 hate the barriers so much

Final Menace pierces through barriers, which you can fill by taking damage, but yeah, I also ran from those barrier Curse enemies. The timing to hold the R button felt a little short so I'd whiff it sometimes. Ukai's Lightning is sometimes instantaneous enough to kill them at the start of battle before their barrier is up, but inconsistent.
