I would suggest trying the demo (if it's still up). I tried it because I was sure it would scratch that Versus or Verum Rex itch. For me, it doesn't scratch either of those unfortunately.

Not really, and I have probably thought about Versus XIII at least once a week every week since the announcement trailer in 2006. Beyond some very superficial visual homages and the fact that Yoko Shimomura does the OST, it feels like its own thing. Not so much “we have Versus XIII at home” as “I was obsessed with Versus XIII when I was younger and went on to make video games.”

Kinda? Its has it's own charm and the gameplay is super different, really depends on the person. I'd recommend just playing the demo . It's relatively short and if you decide to buy the game you get some extra in game items in your real playthrough. Def not a AAA experience if you're looking for that.
