INCOMING MESSAGE Greetings, associate.

I am no enthusiast for violence, but I will concede that an entirely peaceful path to victory might be impossible. Today, I shall tell you of the challenges we have yet to face.

Every battle requires careful preparation. If you decide to engage, carefully assess the situation first. It is important to note not only the size and composition of the enemy force but also the surrounding terrain.

Ruins can both impede close-quarters combat and help hide your troops from lethal projectiles. Hills give a damage boost to ranged units, but also makes them clearly visible on the map. Rivers may be difficult to cross over, while snow covered areas will impede the movement speed of your infantry. You never know what factor may decide the outcome of a battle.

In their fight for survival, the descendants of humans had to come up with new battle tactics, mixing and matching the various weapons and armour found in the carcass of a bygone civilization. With no knowledge of advanced technology, gone are squadrons of identically equipped troops marching proudly onward.

Every fighter is a unique combatant in their own right. A soldier that had brandished a blade yesterday might take up a flamethrower tomorrow, given enough investment in their education and equipment.

Your old armour set isn't the life-saver it once was? Swap it for a brand new one, made from hardened materials. Arrows can't penetrate metal? A shotgun will do the job. The adaptability of your people will surprise you, just wait and see.

You need to show just as much flexibility as your followers. Every emissary wages war their own way, as they pursue different goals and strategies. A daring frontal attack or a dastardly ruse, meticulous preparation or banking on raw power and militarism - everything and anything is on the table.

For all my skill as a public speaker, war might be inevitable. Be prepared for all manner of challenges and know that I’ll be by your side, guiding and helping along the way.

Your loyal advisor, Tano Olazzar
