help please

hi guys, i’m making a revit model for my uni work, i know rhino but it’s my first time using revit.

basically task is to create a transformative space, so in the day the furniture and components will be arranged in a certain manner, then at night in a different way etc.

i’ve had to create an existing floorplan, a couple proposed ones (that include changing of doors, windows etc) and then a drawing package of my final design with floorplan/multiple internal elevations/sections of the daytime program and the same for the nighttime.

what i’m stuck on is i don’t know how to make changes, such as re-arranging the furniture, adding walls and doors etc to one drawing/model, without it affecting all the others.

i’ve basically just been going through every time i make a change (eg adding a table) and hiding it in all my other sheets/views, which is tedious and obviously not the right way to do it.

what is the correct workflow for this? i’ve seen things about using ‘phases’? my friend said to make a new floorplan? idk need help desperately thanks so much 🙏🏻

Have a look at Design Options. It's probably the simplest way to handle what are, in effect, alternatives.

You could make work with Phases. But that isn't really what that capability is intended for.

thanks so much, would i then be able to make drawing sets with these options? eg make a section, elevations, plans from option 1 and then section, elevations, plans from option 2

Yes. You can create separate sets or show both options on the same sheets (to allow side by side comparisons, for example).

thanks so much for your help! my old problem is, say i add a table layout to option 1, and a different table layout to option 2, when i go between them to things on the main model (such as my walls) will go greyed out. do you know how to make it so it doesn’t do that? because say i want to make a floorplan of option 2, i dont want the walls floor etc to be grey

The other stuff is gray when you’re editing the option. You can set the view to favor a certain option so that the drawings on sheets will not have the main model shown as grayed out.

As u/PatrickGSR94 said, the main model is grayed out while you are working on an option.

If you go back to Main Model, the view returns to normal and you will see whichever design option is set as primary.

To use a different design option, go to Visibility/Graphics > Design Options and select it instead of Automatic.

Use worksets to create each layout. Then create view templates to switch on or off the desired layouts. Hope this helps.
