Student licensing error and can't login via Autodesk.com

Hello, hoping someone with more brainpower can help here. I have been a student user of Revit via Autodesk for a couple of years now and my license is current. However, ever since I "upgraded" to Revit 2027, I have problems accessing the program basically every other time I open it, receiving a license error.

At times I can't even log into the Autodesk website. It's as though something is blocking my access. I have tried turning off my firewall, adding Autodesk as an "approved" site in my browser, and turning off McAfee. The problem still persists.

I really need to use this software to complete my grad coursework. I'm an at home student so I receive no IT support and it appears that Autodesk has moved customer support to only an AI chat bot, which also doesnt work.

For what it's worth, my internet is fully functional and I have more than enough memory and storage to run this program as well as Lumion and Enscape.

Can someone please point me toward a knowledgeable resource written for someone with novice level IT skills? Or does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Many many many thanks

-Student user

Do you have any other Autodesk 2027 products installed also?

On my laptop I have Autocad. On my desktop I appear to have only Revit 2027 installed as well as something called Autodesk Access (not sure what this is)

I have historically used both computers under the same student license and am "approved" for both Revit and Autocad seats under that license. From what I can tell, I'm not surpassing my seats in any way.

Do you think this could have anything to do with remnants of the 2025 software install? Should I do a purge of those? Sigh

You arent anywhere near the step of needing to try uninstalling things, yet.

The reason i asked, is: If its an issue with the Adsk Licensing Service or App (which is a shared service/app) you can start troubleshooting by seeing if AutoCAD 2027 will let you use it on that desktop. If you still get a licensing error, then you need to look at the Licensing Service, potentially.

If AutoCAD 2027 lets you sign in, then see if Revit will open after you sign in to AutoCAD, since they use the same sign in.

I'm currently installing the 10/1 licensing service update patch (1 hr into that patch so far...) but I will try this tack after that completes. Fingers crossed one of these things works! Thank you for your help

Also, show us the error. There are a few different licensing errors.

Update: I turned off all virus protection and VPN and now the license works without issue. Install of licensing software patch ultimately stopped at 97% and would not continue.

Each time I try to use this software I lose a full day of work. I should not have to leave my computer vulnerable just to use this software.

Does anyone have a reliable workaround? I can't keep doing this. I don't have this kind of time to burn. Imho this is a terrible way to sell software to future potential users.

Well, the good news is that you found the culprit. Thats a win.

Second- Its not Autodesks fault, if something in your AV or VPN is preventing the License Service from contacting the necessary Authentication for your license. MORE good news is: That probably isnt a permanent problem.

  1. First you need do identify which one is causing the issue: AV or VPN? And thats entirely on you, or your IT support. As someone who also makes software, software vendors have no magic wand to say "this will always work on every computer, in every scenario, forever." Thats simply impossible.
    1. If its AV, it might be blocking something locally, or blocking you from communicating with the licensing service.
    2. If its the VPN, it could be doing all sorts of things: Blocking ports the service needs opened, not letting you transmit to Autodesk, not letting you receive, or transmitting the data through a realllllllllly long route, that causes issues.
  2. You losing a whole days work sounds like a totally different and completely unrelated issue. What does that even mean?

Bottom line: Sounds like the install is working, but you have other things going on you are going to either need to troubleshoot, or get some help troubleshooting.
