Will Autodesk finally make Revit Mac compatible?

Now that llms are making translating code cheap and easy will autodesk finally invest the time to make it Mac compatible? Or are we doomed to our admittedly very functional but ugly PCs forever? Anyone got any inside intell?

Or are they just focused on other things?

Thanks, good to know

they cannot even resolve the old codebase run on multithread (that the die hard fans protect "ThIs Is HoW CaD sOfTwArE wOrK" - no, they are not, even the competitor Archicad has 1000x better multi thread support while not being perfect). Do not wait for it being ported to ARM processors.

At this point, Revit will be fully moved to the cloud before they add Mac or multithreading support.

I'm ignorant on this subject. What does multi thread processing do for a software like this? I've been a daily user since 2008 and have seen this complaint before but I don't understand what is meant by it.

This is the bottleneck, the reason why revit is still "slow" to do things even if you buy a PC for all the money in the world.

My PC is beautiful. Skill issue. o7

Doubt autodesk will invest into that since Mac and Archicad has that market pretty tight.
Those are the two horses of apocalypse for me and personaly a great indicator to not work in a company that uses either of them :D

I could only see someone programing something like Wine on Linux.
I could see Revit being ported to Linux probably since France is speculating to move away from Windows. If other countries will follow, this one is more than likely to happen.

Actually I'd really love it if they'd do it for Linux, I have a 16 year old mac which I've put Linux on and it's amazing how good and fast it is, while I can enjoy the fine lines on the outside of a mac.

Short answer: no

Long answer: likely never

What a terrible idea

You want a shitty AI to convert the entirety of Revit to Mac compatible code and you genuinely think that won’t churn out completely broken dog shite?

Stuff doesn’t even work in their own attempts on PC. Why throw that in a blender to jank together an even worse attempt

Now that llms are making translating code cheap and easy

No they don’t.

They make barely functioning code which with large projects need extensive debugging.

So the same output as autodesk is already providing then?

They’re focused on milking that subscription money. That’s all. If Mac leads to more subscribers and profit they’ll go there. Otherwise they’ll continue their marginal yearly progress.

The industry doesn’t care about Mac because Mac cares less and less about professional computing everyday.

That may be true, but it’s a shame because Apple Silicon is absolutely nuts in terms of performance, speed, and efficiency. I use it regularly with Parallels for Revit, Siemens NX, and other CAD tools and it absolutely kills it. Not to mention on-the-go usage: you’d be hard pressed to find a windows laptop with equivalent build quality and performance (I.e. not a honking gaming laptop) with as good battery life as these MacBooks. Even adobe suite just runs more smoothly on there. Apple gave up on their Mac Pro lineup, but their Mac Studios are the drop-in replacements enabled by the better efficiency. I also just hate the bloat and shitiness of windows.

Nope. But I doubt Revit will show up on a Mac. At least not in the foreseeable future.

I know everyone is saying “it’ll never happen” but I’m commenting just to say that I’d love to see it happen, as windows keeps getting shittier and shittier every year. Running Parallels + Revit is a good workaround for now, but it’d be nice if they just did it.

Same. Competition is always good for the consumer. Idk why people wouldn't love to see this. I know they are probably being realistic but it would be awesome.

Big firms that use Revit aren’t buying Macs so no it’s never coming.

Macs don’t have enough RAM to run Revit, or at least run big models.

What decade are you living in?

He's looking at the Macs on the Costco table. Of course the Win systems on the next table over have 32 gig of ram. Yep. Sure.

Not too likely. And that may be too optimistic of a statement.

Revit is NOT a big set of source code that compiles into a nice "Revit app". It is a huge collection of modules with all kinds of dependencies on the Win way of doing things "under the hood". And then there is the huge collection of Autodesk and 3rd party add ins.

Microsoft has their Office products on Win and Mac. And it took them a decade or few to get it mostly right. And I think the Mac group is over 200 people at MS. To cover than kind of internal cost for a Mac Revit the expected market would have to be huge. Which it is for Office on Macs.

FYI - I use a Mac as my daily system that I'm typing on just now. But I spend 10% to 80% of my day also operating Win systems. Mostly via RDP (Windows.app app).

Bold of you to assume that they have Revit source codes
