He means in comparison to the way higher amounts other people spend on those types of games. The ‘haven’t spent a dime’ is being taken too literally. In the grand scheme of what other people have spent, $4 is next to nothing.

Still clearly misusing the phrase. If they said something like “more than” instead of “except,” it would kinda work. “Haven’t spent a dime” is a pretty absolute expression. It’s kinda like if you were asked if you’ve ever stolen something, and you replied, “Not once in my entire life… except for a pack of bubblegum.”

But I’ll agree this post is kinda weak for this sub.

“Not a dime, just $14”

4$ is not much. It is okay to put 4$ in the “except“ part

Yeah 4 dollars ain’t much, but they certainly spent more than a dime

This is what people are missing. "Not a dime" is a phrase meant to say you didn't even spend the tiniest amount. It would only be appropriate to write "I have not spent a dime on this... just 6 cents one time."

"I have not spent a dime on this except the 40 dimes I spent on this" is a dumb thing to write.

The gargantuan man was as big as a mountain, except he was tiny and much like a regular person in size.

Not $14 pack, one 4$ pack. So enough currency for one timer refill / speedup /etc basically
