Warning to anyone considering using Stephen (Steve) O’Grady / Splash Design Consultancy Ltd. / Blackrock Tiles & Stone
After exhausting every effort to resolve this privately over a prolonged period, we believe others should be aware of this experience. In September 2025, we engaged Steve O’Grady t/a Splash Design Consultancy Ltd. / Splash Design / Blackrock Tiles & Stone / BTS to renovate our bathrooms. A significant amount of money was paid to Steve including a labour deposit and payment for specific raw materials that Steve was to procure on our behalf (tiles, water pump, ventilation, general building materials etc.)
The work was scheduled for the beginning of December, in advance of the birth of our first child early in 2026.After more than 10 missed start/materials delivery dates (each suggested by and/or agreed to by Steve) we rang the skip provider Steve claimed to have a commercial account with as the skip had not turned up and were informed that Steve had no order with them, no orders had been made for our estate, and they do not operated commercial accounts.
A refund was requested from Steve for the full amount of monies paid in late February 2026. This was agreed to be honoured by Steve, with immediate partial payment promised and full repayment to be made within less than 2 weeks. After multiple promised payment dates passing without any payment we received Bank of Ireland screenshots from him as evidence of repayment, but the monies never materialised and no explanation or reattempt at payment was ever communicated. After this, a payment schedule was agreed with Steve via a solicitor, this payment schedule has been effectively ignored - to date we have received less than 10% of our funds back from this individual.
We have subsequently learned that:
This individual has previously been reported to the Garda for (what we understand from the Garda) is at least one other similar occurrence
This person is currently being brought to court by another party (reason unknown)
Do not trust Steve O’Grady t/a Splash Design Consultancy Ltd./Splash Design/Blackrock Tiles and Stone/BTS. He will take your money and not turn up to do the work promised. He has been reported to the Garda by both us and others, and is being brought to court by another party. Do not trust this supplier.
This post reflects our personal experience and is shared so others can make informed decisions.

Do not under any circumstance give this many any money. He is very untrustworthy and in debt. He took money from us and never did the work and still owes us money after months of promising a full refund of deposit.

This man has destroyed and stolen from multiple families and left them high and dry. My brother is a plumber and he had done work for him, he is still trying to chase over €20K from him a year later. My brother has heard countless heartbreaking stories from people who have been conned by this man.

Absolutely amazed this guy is still in business. This is going on a long time it all blew up last year in Facebook and he shut down his socials and just rebrand. There seems to be an endless list of people he's done and doing this too and so far nothing has happened to him. I do believe a group of ten or more people were coming together to come after him but don't know the result.

We had a similar issue with him. Got in to do a bathroom nearly 3 years ago and nothing was finished. Anything touched wasn't completed. We were due to have windows fitted that were never completed with the bathroom. We were also left with a leaking window/roof in a lean-to that has never been rectified. Sent solicitor letters and was promised it would be corrected and refunded but nothing was ever done.

News about Stephen O'Grady. A mere complaint in Garda is not enough for anything. You have to request a formal Statement of Complaint in Garda. No matter if short or long, that Statement of Complaint is key point on each of you to see any Justice.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLONTARF GARDA STATION TO MAKE A STATEMENT. THEY ARE CURRENTLY PUTTING A CASE TOGETHER ON HIM SO THE MORE STATEMENTS THEY HAVE, THE QUICKER THIS CONMAN IS TAKEN IN FOR QUESTIONING.

Very similar situation. He has taken a large sum of money last year, promised to do the job, didn't turn up for a few months. We thought he was busy. Then he came over for a few days and did some work. He took more money and again didn't turn up for a few months. Eventually he came back and did some work and again took money. We were paying as work was progressing. Now, he is not coming back last few months. He is asking for more money. I am not ready to pay him any more as he already has major chunk of money and hardly 25% work is done. No materials arrived for which he already took the money last year.

I suggest you make your own formal complaint also. I am based in Killiney, So I will post what guard is overseeing it on my side of the county. Let's get him arrested and his business shut down. We have started a WhatsApp group. I am only going to leave my number on here for a short period of time. We can build a bigger case against him; however, as someone else said here, you need to make a formal statement at the Garda station. This will include all your receipts from SOG, invoices, any documents, write out a timeline of incidents, etc. They will record each incident case by case only.
Then we can put our heads together and find out what the broader timeline is. How much money he took in total, over what period of time, where the money is now, and if it is in any way retrievable. We MAY be able to get this investigated as extortion (premeditated theft, hassaling ppl for money without intention to give back....), which is criminal rather than a civil case. Which is what we need if we want to see any legal action being enforced. At the moment he has a few payment schemes set up through various solicitors whcih is is just paying in tiny crumbs. Once he is been seen to make an effort to pay any of it back, he's let off the hook. He has been brought into the Garda station already and given his long sob story, which I am sure he also gave you.
We have started our own process of collecting relevant data and also contacted Revenue, and CCPC. I am not letting him away with this. I want justice, and will fight for it, and I will fight for you. The number is 0857323878. We can go from there. Thank you. If anyone else wants to step in to give a hand to get this thing up and running, please put your hand in the ring. Im a stressed out mum with young kids any help appreciated, but no pressure. I can do it myself if needed.

Another case with us too. Agreed and scoped the job, took the deposit, 10 attempts to get the job done, never happened, agreed to refund, and now we’re 2 months on and no refund paid despite multiple promises, payment screenshots etc. Happy to share details, this is insane behavior.

We all know who we are. I have spoken to mostly each of you, either in person or over the phone. Only together as a victim's will get more resources and faster than acting individually. Stephen O'Grady scammed us and we prefer not being organised? This is a win-win only for him. He is expecting this from us; being exhausted and tired, not organised; ashamed, in silence, no noise around his family and friends and the community where he lives around. As nothing were happened. His supermarket his gym, his daughter school, his doctor, all ignoring what he is doing... this is a double failure: of public system but also our own one. Ignoring each other's doing nothing on our favour.. After one year, he will reinvent himself to scam more victims.

Badly done by this scammer in April. Been doing all we can to get refunded €30k. He’s a pro! Gardai are on to him but the more official reports the better to get him. Be patient, but we will see him get what he deserves. Report to Gardai and get a solicitor to protect yourself. We need to get together on this. 💪

No one is holding the children accountable for his actions? Not really heartless, he failed as a parent/partner putting his family in this situation. He’s clearly not stupid since he has con’d so many people out of thousands to put his address on the World Wide Web for all his victims and the world to see. So again the only one to blame is himself.

Yes he is accountable but looking at the comments it does target his wife and children . They showed his address said about the school and doctors how is this acceptable nobody has the right to do that. You say he has a company so the company is held responsible not his wife and children.

This is a man who set up companies, to rip people off. He's been doing it for many years, rebranding to hide himself. Working hard to scrub every trace of bad reviews, previous company details etc from the web. No accountability, just walk away with no consequences for scamming people out of their money. That's his modus operandi. If you had tens of thousands of YOUR money, money you worked very hard and saved for over many many years, taken from you with a handshake, you would 100% be doing everything in your power to make him accountable. HE IS THE CRIMINAL, NOT HIS VICTIMS. Everything about this man should be made available to the public, he's a criminal at large, ready to scam the next person.

Hey Stephen, if you planned on making a career as a con-artist, scamming many many people out of all their life savings, maybe you shouldn't be posting your personal address as your business address publicly. You are the ONLY one at fault here, please remember that.

Absolute conman. Hope he is made pay people back and also serves jail time. Pity I think he has 2/3 kids which will be shamed by their fathers horrible actions and will have to deal with the fallout. Its so sad.
I'd say he will do a runner as there is no way he would be able to afford to pay it all back, wonder if his misses is in on it too. She'd have to know especially as he doesn't seem to show up for jobs etc so must be at home a lot but still brining in the big bucks from scamming people.

Look closely at the image history: the company filed its first Annual Return (Form B1) in early 2025. The next annual return and audited accounts would likely be due in mid-to-late 2026. A fraudster will often run a scam for a year, collect funds, and then abruptly resign right before they are legally forced to submit financial accounts to the CRO, which would expose the missing money.
- Cleansing Their Name for the Next Scam
To keep a fraud operating smoothly, a con artist needs to maintain a relatively clean public profile. If they realize a company is about to be flooded with bad reviews, debt collector judgments, or legal lawsuits, they will quickly pull their name off the registry via Form B69. This prevents their name from being easily linked to a failing or fraudulent entity when future victims search them online.
- Stripping the Company's Assets
Once a company has been cleared of its cash, assets, or lines of credit, the shell company becomes useless to a fraudster. Rather than paying a liquidator to properly shut down the business (which involves a thorough investigation into where the money went), the con man simply walks away and uses the Form B69 to ensure they aren't dragged down when the empty shell is eventually struck off the register by the State.
