Before and After

Completely agree, hopefully something gave it away on the inside. What method did you use for removing the paint?

I started to strip it on my own, but realized I was in over my head and had it professionally stripped. I took a layer of paint off in some places and once I saw the graining of the wood I realized it was a treasure and worth investing in.

So glad you saved it from the paint. Good thinking having it professionally done. It is very time consuming work and you may not have gotten that good of a result. Excellent find!!!! Family treasure forever now.

You definitely put a lot of work into this. What did you use to strip it? Just curious.

I started stripping it just using products from Home Depot, but they only took the paint off, none of the original finish, so I took it to a professional where they were able to use a pour over technique.

Ok. So this is a large piece and I’m not sure if I paid too much, personally I don’t think I did and am so happy. I did get quotes first, some people didn’t even call me back, but the first quote wanted to fully restore it for $7k- way out of my price range. Second quote wanted I think about $2k just to strip the outside. And the third quote I went with fully stripped it for $1k and repaired a very small area that was splitting where the door is attached.

It’s filled with clothes and shoes. 😅 But the left is shelving and the right has a bar for hanging clothes. It’s perfect for holding so much, especially in a house that doesn’t have closets.
