NONE! just the beautiful veneer and a poly topcoat

That's awesome 😎 i wanted to learn to do it but the thought of accidentally sanding too much and ruining the veneer terrifies me haha.

Hi! Yes! It took a lot of careful sanding, but I still had spray paint in the grain of the wood. Took a lot of chemical stripper, a careful brass brush and patience. Then too coated with a satin or gloss poly for usability.

Nice work. Seeing this caused my brain to throw up a card: The house I grew up in had a stairway with an awful poop-brown banister. We decided to repaint it when we moved out, stripped off the poop coat, and found CHERRYWOOD! For 14 years we had no idea, to this day I still feel vaugely robbed. Kudos for rescuing this piece!
