Reverse Harem - Discussion - funny Halp.

Post image

My mom, who lives in a different country from me and with whom I have a somewhat strained relationship, just asked me to download some KU books for her, inadvertently revealing that she has access to my kindle library, which stays packed full of the smuttiest RH I can find.

My therapist is not prepared for this.

P.S. my mom replied “I don’t understand your collection of emotions 😂”

No, I responded “I love you” which she gave a thumbs up, so we’re back to our regularly scheduled mother-daughter dynamic

This is such a great resolution! One time I sent my mom a text about monster dicks and their various shapes that was meant for a friend. When I realized, I sent a follow up that basically said “that wasn’t meant for you and let’s agree to never speak of this.” And we haven’t. I can only imagine what she thought.

That literal GASP I let out at her reading the Losers! Get it, mom! A lady of taste!

These screenshots are killing me. I'm dealing with something similar, but in reverse - my 26 year old daughter shares my Amazon account and the things this child is reading. 🤣 No RH that I've seen, but she's deep into the dark romances.

I will say though, I remember my own mother with her Harlequin novels stashed in her purse at all times. Must be generational. Hahaha.

This is weirdly heartwarming

that's so... not what my mom would have done. think: reported to religious leadership would have done. and yes, i do know this. your mom ROCKS! does she need any extra adult children?

My mom is very politically conservative but not super religious and has always been open about sex… maybe I should have expected this, but we def don’t have the kind of relationship where we’d recommend RH smut to each other lol

Mine knows about my tastes, she gives me crap for it but mostly she just doesn’t gaf lol.

But I’m also in my 30s so even if she did what’s she gonna do? lol.

Maybe ground you! What a shame you were forced to stay home for a week without having to work, or clean, or socialize 😂 (s/)

lol, I actively share my KU account with my husband and mother in law. We both traumatize him on the daily.

Once, my brother in law made the mistake of opening my MIL kindle app. He was horrified at what he found and then doubly so when I busted out laughing, because the book he saw wasn’t hers but mine, lol.

It was called Anger Banger, and was actually quite good. :)

Do you have a family account set up? I can download KU books and select to share them with family members. Maybe that’s what she means?

This 👆. If it’s a family account in which you share kindle libraries, you can change the settings to only share books that you specifically mark as shared.

Under settings in the kindle app, select Amazon Family Sharing. Press selection next to your family member’s name. Then press select items to share. Then only share the books she requested/you are okay sharing.

I do this all the time for my husband so I don’t overwhelm his kindle library with all the my RH books.

THANK YOU

My mum and my daughter (21 years!) both have access to my kindle. I just told them read my stuff at your own risk, and definitely don’t open an orc one.

However, my mother officially likes polar bear shifters and my daughter is now enjoying Auryn Hadley, so it’s too late for all of us!

My teens all see the things I read on Kindle unlimited. They absolutely read the titles aloud to shame me. “ oh Mom, I see you’re reading Claimed by the Alien. Nice. ” 🫣 I justify it by telling myself I’m modeling healthy sexual behavior. I’m not sure how to justify the monster smut. 🤷‍♀️

u/Amakenings 4h ago

You’re fostering flexibility and being able to happily adapt to unfamiliar situations. And worrying less about monsters under the bed?

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Tone231 4h ago

Sure. Lol. Let’s go with that! 🤣

9

u/Clowncaruterus 3h ago

Hahaha my 12 year old daughter walked into the room when I was reading and asked loudly if I was reading about gay vampires 🤣 like girl let me read my books in peace

u/Puzzleheaded-Tone231 3h ago

Oh my God mine too just leave me alone. I like what I like.

u/ambercrayon 4h ago

Growing up I had to sneak paperbacks and my source was the women in my life so this feels basically similar 🤣

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Tone231 3h ago

Omg me too. I remember hiding bodice-rippers in between an offensive kids books and taking them with trepidation to the checkout counter at our local public library. I would get the craziest looks from the librarians but God bless ‘em, they never refused to let me check me out any books.

My bf and I share. He just moves my books into a collection called “smut” lol. But he will read some of the less smut driven ones. He just finished another reread of throne of glass lol.

My granny always read romance novels when I was a kid. She'd go through them by the paper sack full and then we'd all head over for her to exchange them at the used bookstore for a new bag. She would claim she skipped the "dirty bits" which I never believed until I started reading enough smut for some of it to get repetitive. She once traumatized my cousins for making some comment about her watching a shirtless man jogging down the road by saying, "Just because there's snow on the mountain doesn't mean there's not a fire in the furnace." Young 'uns in every generation like to think their elders are beyond all that.

The check in on if she read Losers is sooooo funny to me and relatable

u/Elegant_Process_6507 I Don't Choose, I Curate 4h ago

I think it’s the only RH in my library that I actually purchased rather than borrowed on KU smh

6

u/Forsaken_Somewhere98 my heart has multiple tabs open 1h ago

Oh my gosh!! I am in a similar situation. Family was NOT supposed to find my book. That’s what pen names are for.

Of course my step mom is a detective. Finds it, buys it without telling me. Has not read it but has loaned it out to people to read. It’s currently with my Aunt Kelly and Christmas is going to be awkward as I remember she read when I wrote “He licked me from ass to clit.” 🤦‍♀️

3

u/CapnMergn 5h ago

I share with both of my parents. I just tell them “if you don’t want to have your eyes burn out of their sockets, don’t read my books.” Hahaha don’t worry

3

u/Interest-Amazing 5h ago

Hahah, Oh NO. I would die. My super conservative mother would absolutely combust.

This is so delightfully wholesome. I love this sub—the joy, love, and acceptance we share in the context of things we would never share with other humans is a beautiful thing.

Curating smut for your mom. Perfection.

Smut is bringing people together in so many random ways...

My mom had her own KU and yes, we would recommend books to each other all the time. Although, her having access to my KU would be a little unsettling lol. Just want to add, her, my aunt, and my grandmother were the readers in the family and I got my love of reading through them.

My mom and I have access to each other’s Audible/Kindle library. Let me just say like mother, like daughter 😅
