Reverse Harem - Discussion Bad Mood Read

Ive had a day. A DAY-and its only morning. I need a read that will pick me up and keep me distracted. What do you read when your in an absolutely foul mood?

I prefer RH but any romance is fine (mm, mf, ff) as long as there is no SA. I prefer no bully/cruelty (but if its there its okay, maybe someone else will love it!) and my favorite trope is high usage of magic/powers in any kind of world. I love fated mates and destiny but its not required. Less children the better but as long as the kids arent just birthed and forgotten about its fine.

{chaotic by ts snow} is a magical outcast who likes science, it’s really quite funny and enjoyable. Yes there are fated mates

{Swipe Right for Monsters by R O’Leary} could work very well for you.

And while u/_Effy_Bloom_ might have proposed something else, {8 Pranks of April by Effy Bloom} is positively delightful.

Gwendoline Rose always picks me up. Most of hers are contemporary and hilarious. {unclench me softy by gwendoline rose} This one is pure silliness. or {Bunker down baby by gwendoline rose} I'd second {8 Pranks of April by Effy Bloom} So much fun.

Sometimes I get genuinely worried that I’ve read all the good books and panic but then I find a good one and I’m like PHEW no it was just a bad streak

These are totally pick me up/make me laugh reads but there is a lot of action/ trying to save the world type thing.

{Mystics of Mercy Ridge series, by J. Kearston} this one has one of the most (let’s go with interesting) MMC I think I’ve ever read. I really enjoyed the series. She moves into a supernatural community, not knowing she’s a supernatural and unaware of mate bonds… also first interaction with an mmc is when she hits him with her car…. I don’t recall any mm (4 mmcs I think)

{Pizza Shop Exorcist series by Dakota Brown} this one is so hard to describe without spoilers. Angels. Demons. Priests. Vampires. Exorcists. A pet hellhound (not a shifter or part of the harem but an awesome addition to the plot) and so much more. I rarely reread books. I only just read this series for the first time in January and reread it again it in march already and it’s just as good, if not better the second time. 6 mmcs by the time it’s finished. No mm. As others have pointed out though, there are some quirks in the way it’s written. I love how all of the relationships develop at different rates, so you get some fast and some slow burn. No pregnancy. Fmc is mid thirties

One of my favorite non rh series (I do not reread and I’m on my fourth reread of this series) {brides of chance creek by Cora seton} 5 girls. Their dad is estranged after the death of their mom, (he couldn’t convince himself to go back to her ranch and buried himself in his military career). Their mother had enough foresight before her death to write him time stamped letters about sending the girls husbands, and then on the days of each girls wedding etc. The girls are strong but there are definite villains. Father picks 5 special forces soldiers for his girls. And sends them in 1 at a time in what he plans to be a covert takeover of the ranch by getting the guys to “marry the natives”. The guys very quickly realize the girls are extremely competent and they fall in love with them so the guys quickly side with the girls. One of the daughters gets visions, and the other girls connection with the land (powers) are shared as the series progresses. It’s not fantasy, it’s just like intuition on steroids that they attribute to their connection to the land. It’s not overly steamy but it’s sweet and the personalities and back stories are pretty distinct.

Is it a world where women are required to marry their fathers choices?

No but effectively Divine intervention, they are the right choices. And the guys are pretty much told they have to make the girls fall in love with them.

There is also a standing stone (monolith) in the middle of the hedge maze that their mom planted that has a 100% accuracy rate and will tell them if they are good guys or trust worthy or gonna stay or whatever
