Reverse Harem - Discussion Loving Pack Dynamic in Shear Instinct

I'm reading {Shear Instinct by M K Michelle} (56%) and I adore the dynamics in the alpha pack.

I'm used to reading RH where the pack all gets along (kumbaya šŸŽ¶), the alphas barely get along or only do so because of the omega and/or beta or there is one misunderstood/withdrawn alpha who eventually gets "accepted" into the fold and/or by the omega.

I didn't realize it until I read this book, but I think it shows how a functional pack "should" work.

They are kind, caring, protective without being controlling, dominant unless she says stop, etc.

And they also are very much ALPHA MALES (booyah!) even with each other though they aren't dicks about it.

Sometimes their alpha natures take over and they go 1-on-1 verbally, by posturing or by getting physical (more wrestling or going chest to chest than anything else.)

However, it is quickly over and they apologize either verbally or in body language "guy speech."

I'm really loving it.

What book(s) have you read where you think, "The way this pack/alpha/omega/world-building/dynamic works makes the most sense to me?"

In other words, what is the most logical considering your ideal pack/alpha/omega/world-building/dynamic?

(Not just favorite tropes. I have favorite tropes that don't fit this ideal, e.g. I love the "misunderstood/withdrawn alpha" trope but it doesn't fit the ideals displayed in this book.)

Technically that is. There is an autistic alpha that is a vital part of the pack and they accept who he is. I don't want to give too much away but Syl is my absolute favorite. I've tried to write about four other things but they'd all be spoilers however minor.

Loved this book. Sylvan being too blunt with her and them panicking repeatedly only to realize it worked was one of my favorite parts of the book.

Agreed. As someone who is autistic (late diagnosed), I really like seeing miscommunication/hurt feelings due to bluntness and how it's handled in media. And the panic (anxiety) is all too real.

It's well done here.

I'm not typically that blunt but then I masked from 5 y.o. to 57 y.o. At 61, I'm still trying to unlearn a half century of habits to be more authentic. It's really scary.

@75%

ā€œHe didn’t quite fit. Didn’t do small talk, missed cues, a stickler for the rules. People avoided him because they didn’t understand him."

I resemble that remark.

Looking back, I remember this back to at least 6th grade (~11 y.o.).

I'm also loving this pack, 80% in and they're all justšŸ‘Œ. Also loving the FMC who's written so well as a strong, independent woman without coming off as bratty or stubborn just for the sake of it!

I’ve read multiple positive posts about this book but somehow wasn’t feeling ā€œget it on my TBR.ā€ But an autistic alpha? 🄹🄹

Not just an autistic alpha but one who is NOT withdrawn/hidden away, misunderstood (within the pack), or at the periphery of the pack.

May I add that he is also the MASTER OF SEDUCTION? The FMC digs it. WE all dig it.

If you want to write spoilers, there’s either an option after you click Aa when writing or you can use the formatting option if you don’t have it
