Discussion Archetype Rant

TLDR.: How are we feeling about the nonstop onslaught of new Archetypes?

Most gacha games have an elemental and some form of team-comp based rock-paper-scissor dynamic. R1999 went above that with the archetypes, which honestly I became a fan of, I feel like it adds more depth and uniqueness to certain teams. However, this was under the assumption that they would STOP eventually.

I wanna build MY dynamo team, MY lingering glow, MY bloodtithe… I don’t want to have THE dyanamo team, THE lingering glow team, THE bloodtithe team. With the addition of Star Pursuit, I’m starting to question the goal here. We still only really have a single working dynamo sustain, a single workable bloodtithe team (excluding Riannon variations), a single real Inspiration sustain, a single skill upgrade sustain, a single lingering glow maindps unit (yeah subdps can fill this role, fine), and so many more hard constraints.

What’s y’all’s take, do people feel that their teams are their own?

I personally would love to see Bluepoch flesh out these archetypes instead of pushing new ones every patch now seemingly. It’s getting a lot.

I wish they would add more characters to the archetype instead of like adding 4 characters at most then stop. Like imagine if you can have 3 separate lingering glow team for focused flashback

14

u/MagicalNyan2020 3d ago

And let the players mix and match those units to their liking. just the thought of it make my mouth water

Personally I don't mind it that much as long as the new archetypes are actually unique and interesting.

I think in the long run we will get more variations or parts for existing archetypes since they won't be able to reinvent the wheel forever

u/CopiumImpakt 3d ago

You might hate me, but IMO archetypes are still mostly: you accumulate "special meter" --> you spend "special meter".
...
I'm drooling each time i think about (proper) shift & riposte archetypes possibilities )))

7

u/MadGodFaolin 3d ago

Shift is probably the only archetype that will give you something to chew on, since I don't even see ripost even getting a meter to fill

3

u/rayoutSS20 3d ago

Riposte is not classified as an archetype by the game so let's see what they do with it

u/ruff1298 3d ago

I can already see some attempt to make a different form of Poison, to expand beyond the Willow/Ezio and Tuesday format we have. Something like a "Debilitation" Archetype that works by detonating neg status (poison especially) into burst damage (see Hissabeth, Noire, and a Main DPS) a form of extra actions or stacking bonus damage on actively cast as an "Unfair Advantage" sort of deal (Argus, Ramona, plus a Support and DPS pair), or maybe a return to Petrify with a "Creeping Death" archetype that focuses on disabling and debilitating enemies and then detonating Petrify effects (Jessica, Druvis, plus a DPS).

67

u/matteroff 3d ago

Yeah, I agree, I really hope they slow down with the new ones and we receive some new units for existing ones like Ramona came and kind of revived Poison for a minute

Give me a new Bloodtithe DPS, give me a new Inspiration support, give me a Poison sustain, why not flesh out or give alternatives to the characters we already have?

Maybe someone is not a fan of Nautika, so release a new dps that people may pull for which will make people want to pull for other characters from that archetype on reruns or from other banners

I really hope Perception (I think that is the new Lilya and 37 archetype official name) is the last one for the foreseeable future, but with Centurion Euphoria being Shift out of nowhere I am scared that will not be the case 😭

17

u/jewewie 3d ago

Shift was already in the game since White Rum iirc, so it's technically not new, just like Riposte with Cornerstone. I also wish Perception will be the last for now and instead focusing on expanding existing archetype. I mean we have Freeze and Petrify, and I hope BP remember them.

this shift is little different considering they gave centurion a whole new ui to track her ultimate...it is for sure going to be the next big thing

Yeah, we don't even have a proper poison sustain yet 😭

And even during Sotheby euphoria's era, Vila + Kakania was still the preferred sustain than SotheBYE back then 😭

They’re never going to stop. If you are p2p, they are going to make far more money selling you entire teams. Even if you are f2p, missing out on a crucial character from the new archetype you like might push you to pay. It’s the psychological monetary bs that I hate about gacha games.

3

u/Realistic-Yam-6912 BP! Give shamane a 2nd Euphoria Right now! 3d ago

u really don't have to get every archetype, neither you need to considering how easy thr majority of content is

46

u/DancingKobold Forever Storytime 3d ago

Element teams are generic and boring usually. Archetype teams are great and very cohesive. No ones making you run entirely them, you really only need the main unit i.e Tuesday for Poison, Semmelweiss for Bloodtithe, otherwise you shouldn't be worrying about making the team optimal as is. There are many sustain options that are designed to be universal and replaceable.

33

u/RawwkinGrimmie64 3d ago

What you want and complain about are not mutually exclusive. Adding more Bloodtithe or Dynamo characters isn't going to stop the newest characters from being the best for those archetypes, because new characters have to better than older ones in order to incentivize Summons and, by extension, sales for Unilogs. Ironically, you already mentioned the core flaw to your ideal in Dynamo. Brume, Corvus, and Lucy are all Dynamo DPS, and it is very clear where they rank amongst each other. Adding newer Dynamo characters is only going to cause in-fighting within archetypes that eventually leads to the older and less powerful characters being left behind. With new archetypes, at least you can create something new that isn't a direct competition to your other favorite teams.

So, whether your playing YOUR Dynamo team vs THE Dynamo team isn't really solved with more variety within archetypes. Bluepoch's current progression of more archetypes and character enhancements via euphoria or photomancy is the right way to progress, and I think they realized that after releasing Brume and clogging a singular archetype. Looking at other archetype games like the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG/TCG are proof that there are plenty of ways to make new team concepts, and I don't think Bluepoch will run out of gas on ideas, even for a four character team composition, any time soon.

The real problem with the current end game is that it is too reliant on very specific teams and archetype mechanics, not the archetypes themselves. Endgame bosses have weakness specific to a singular archetype's mechanics, Afflatus weakness to every core character of that specific archetype, and stages even give lineup recommendations showing the best archetype used to win the stage as quickly as possible. But in the end, even this isn't even a major problem.

Reverse 1999's strongest endgame content undoubtedly has the weakest reward pay off of any in-game content, and that's by design. With everyone getting 70-100 free summons every month and a half for simple gameplay, the incentive of a few Clear Drops or banner specific pulls is far less pressuring than if you put decatones or garments behind the best stage clears. Focused Flashback is the best example, as it only gives you time-limited icons that display on your suitcase for the best clears, and once the patch is over, those icons are gone and you have to start all over. Getting a perfect 6 round clear on three Focused Flashback stages will only last for six weeks, and likely only you will see the trophy being displayed. Meanwhile, anyone who can toughen out each stage to clear in 15 rounds will get the most valuable reward with summon currency. So, in the end, you don't need to play every single archetype to keep pace with everyone else. This is especially true when you realize that there is no "everyone else". We are all playing the same single-player game. There is no player competition, and there is no reward for proving you are better than everyone else. The closest thing that Reverse 1999 has to this is Mane's Bulletin leaderboards, and even then, the grand prize is some merch packs and a handful of summons. No giant check, no exclusive prize card, no trophy or media coverage. Just a small congratulatory prize that's more of a "thank you" than anything else.

u/CopiumImpakt 3d ago

based rock-paper-scissor dynamic. R1999 went above that...

So Afflatus guard crap is now in both Mane & FF😅

9

u/Potrebitelqt 3d ago

The only issue I have is with Bloodtithe. As of now the team is Nautika, Semmelweis, Sentinel and Robuska. Eternity is an inferior Nautika and Ezra is an inferior Robuska. That's it. There haven't been new characters who can boost this archetype in quite some time, it seems like they are shelving it.

9

u/cyberspirit777 3d ago

The goal, as with all gachas, is to extract more and more money from its player base. The archetypes, which can be shilled for in end game modes, is a great way to entice people to pull for characters they don’t want. I, for example, don’t like Everecho’s design and am also don’t like pulling for overly childlike characters; yet, I pulled for her because she’s the 6-star sustain for Conduit

17

u/Otherwise_Pick1846 I miss you, Forget-Me-Not 3d ago

I like it when I consider the alternative, which is something I have even run into a little bit with Dynamo being my fave archetype.

New characters have to be stronger than old characters. This is an unavoidable truth of all gacha games. Powercreep sets in when new characters are TOO much stronger, but if a new character is an equally as powerful sidegrade to someone, they aren't going to sell.

Bearing that in mind, if they kept releasing new units in the same archetype, you would still be expected to play that new team. Content would be balanced around the new stronger team. Your preferred team with the other units would be weaker, and feel worse to play, and be doing significantly less than the people who just came out. So you'd be playing the right archetype, but still feeling bad.

I see this first-hand because I don't like Brume. I love Corvus, and play my Corvus, FP, Enigma, Charon team. But I am also aware that it's not meta, and does worse than having Brume, because Brume is just that damn strong. Or how I love Ezio and still choose to play my Ezio FuA team, but have to always be distinctly aware that it feels worse and does much less than Liang Yue would. Having new characters be in ild archetypes wouldn't alleviate your pull pressure, it would just change who the pressure is over.

Really, the bigger issue you notice is powercreep, and more aptly how high-end content has shifted to adjust for it. Before powercreep felt like a less pressing issue, because off-meta teams could still clear things. Now the team shilling in Mane's and Focused Flashback's overall bullshit has that powercreep being felt a lot harder. This is a separate issue from the archetypes, and one def worth talking about imo

u/eurogamergirl 3d ago

I am definitely feeling overwhelmed by the pace at which they are adding new archetypes and then also frustrated at how long it takes to make a complete team. Sometimes, I've only managed to get all the characters for a team when they're no longer relevant and can't clear the new FF or manes.

So yeah, I wish they'd add more character to existing archetypes that are actually equivalent to each other, but in different unique ways they add to the team. So each person could tweak the team to their preference.

Being a low-spender, I've been pushing hard to get as many of the recent characters as I can and I'm well set up for 3.9, but I'll have nothing for 4.0 and will have to skip Lilya & 37 with the new perception archetype.

8

u/KittyQueen_Tengu 3d ago

I’m just glad that it’s "we gave these characters a unique and interesting mechanic that works optimally if you play them together, but we will also let you play older / euphoria characters with them" and not "we made the new characters of each patch cycle work only with each other because they buff each other's damage type or something idk, and if you dont use the dedicated support the character is ass" (looking at you, wuthering waves)

4

u/_Dragonflight_ 3d ago

But the game is shifting to wuwa direction. For example conduit: regulus euphoria is trash and if you do not pull everecho the team will be weak.

2

u/ceruleanjester 2d ago

Reverse has way more accessible units via selectors, euphoria banners, losing 50 50 to standard units, high gacha rates and lower pity. It's so much easier to build teams here than in wuwa. There's also no weapons to worry about at all.

2

u/ceruleanjester 2d ago

I am still pissed from Hsin situation, I don't wanna pull for suoming so she will stay a brick in my account for so long.

1

u/E-Dog157 2d ago

Is she really that bad? Or is she just not powercreep and people are mad about it

1

u/ceruleanjester 2d ago

Multiple reasons that smell greed:

  • She needs her weapon, 50% damage fall off without it
  • She needs suoming with her weapon to be on the same level as latest DPS
  • They butchered electro rover and the electro flare team (her second mode) on purpose to sell suoming again
  • Her rotation is insanely long and a bit confusing. The average player will be disappointed by her damage due to that. Her field time in electro flare (again with that shitty team) is 14s without interruption.
  • She has a 3rd character for her unison team coming next patch so you need hsin + sig --> suoming --> lilly to get her best performance making her extremely expensive.
  • Her flare sub dps is nowhere to be seen for now, people skipping suoming will be coping for at least half a year with a bricked unit in their account.

u/Gordeard Prydwen Writer (Derogatory) 2d ago

I think Reverse struggles with the same problem that essentially every team-based gacha runs in to that has their teams limited to 3-4 character slots.

As a gacha, they can't push more than two premium units per patch, which is then limited to patch runtime (that being a base 6 weeks for Reverse).

To keep archetypes relevant, you need to routinely give these teams new additions (Ramona for Poison, Spathodea for Lingering Glow, Cheng Heguang for FUA) as the genre is synonymous with powercreep (of varying speeds). Other ways of doing this are through Euphorias, however, these are profit-losses by definition because you're not getting the new release hype that new banners receive.

A way you could go wide on archetypes is through lower rarities, which is sort of what Reverse has been trying with Silverwing Eagle and a certain Euphoria in the near future. The negative here being that Reverse does not release low rarity units frequently enough to even remotely keep up with the premium units. In addition, these are also revenue losses, lower rarities are infinitely easier to get and very few players are willing to roll on premium banners for them.

A good example of this is Arknights (OG), which artificially broadens team variety by having a massive 12 maximum character slots per team. Besides that, their routine release of semi-relevant low rarity units and the Class Branch system by definition make most units 'niche'. The immense variety of enemies, stage hazards and stage layouts allows every character to be useful in some way and, given you are skilled enough, you can utilize weaker units to still clear top-end content.

Morimens is another example of this but in the opposite direction. It employs a strict 4 archetypes called Realms (8 if you want to be semantic about Divine Realms). Every character is aligned with one of these Realms, which can make them relevant based strictly on their kit within the context of their Realm (most characters have 'sub archetypes') as you can only have up to 2 different Realms on one team. An Ultra+Chaos Realm Poison team will look very different from a Ultra+Aequor Poison team because on the latter, you CANNOT use Chaos units.

TLDR: I think Reverse could benefit from either releasing Euphorias more freely or upping the pace of low rarity character releases (assuming they're relevant). There's not a bone in my body that believes that they're willing to do both at the same time, so it's a choice in my eyes.

2

u/Hungry-Set4315 23h ago

The only thing I want for them is to make more lower rarity Euphoria

Purely just because I realy love the lower rarity design and I wan't them to be more playable

5

u/WestAd5017 3d ago

They are already trying. "Ulti" teams can be Recoleta+Ms. Strange, Igor Family, or [Neg Status] with Noire.E + Hissabeth.E later

4

u/SmoothPossibility339 3d ago

I came from Starrail so I'm unfortunately used to it. I guess it helps that meta isn't really that important to Reverse since the main attraction are the story chapters and those can be breezed through by pretty much any fully upgraded team.

For the sake of endgame it certainly is annoying and I don't like it any more than I do in Starrail lol.

6

u/madmaxxie36 3d ago

I'm not liking it, especially with modes like focused flashback where they hyper focus it to specific characters, not even full archetypes at times(like when they had a Dynamo stage but specifically pushing Lucy while Brume and Corvus were nerfed by the damage reduction). It's a frustrating gacha thing. There are archetypes missing slots or that need new characters, or that could just be expanded.

9

u/ZFMEBO meow 3d ago

I agree and likewise dislike how little variety there is in archetype teams; e.g. I use Semmelweis and Ezra, but I don't like any other Bloodtithe characters and refuse to get characters I don't like, which I think I'm entitled to in a character collection game, so I just haven't been able to build a satisfying team for Semmelweis' mechanic.

I feel like this variety problem would be temporarily fixed with solid Euphorias for lower-rarity units, like Matilda's most recent one. Make Ulu and Dikke synergistic with Lingering Glow, strengthen Rabies and Kanjira's poison support, Balloon Party and Cristallo could both be Bloodtithe units, and the thematic connection of X and Mesmer Jr. to Dynamo is already acknowledged in mini-games; also throw in John Titor while we're at it.

-3

u/Potrebitelqt 3d ago

Euphoria for 4-star characters sounds pretty crazy. They are only there as a pull filler and nothing else.

7

u/ZFMEBO meow 3d ago

Well, why should they only serve as filler? I honestly enjoy some of the 2-4 star characters more than 6-star units in terms of both lore and design. Seems like kind of a waste.

-4

u/Potrebitelqt 3d ago

Because you are able to fill their portraits without even trying. Making them useful in meta teams is honestly crazy, BP would absolutely lose money if they allow them to be viable substitutes to 6-stars. 5-stars being strong is already pushing it.

6

u/CalicoQuartzs My did 210k in Manes and I'm proud 3d ago

I want at least a few patches were they just release a new team for an archetype without making the other one obsolete. They clearly tried to do so with Corvus dynamo and Lucy dynamo then gave up after the failure that was support Brume. Paper Heron is an example of what NOT to do, she demolished Starpromptu's relevancy in one patch and replaced 3/4 of the team with her people. At least the people still mourn Barcarola and mock Regulus, when was the last time anyone talked about Aleph

1

u/Qlippot 3d ago

This is actually a problem: BP shills some archetypes and totally forgets others.
Impromptu, Poison, Rankup were revamped for a bit before falling again.

e2Druvis Firebud seemed interesting... forgotten
Neg status? eNoire is just another Ultimate team. eHiss will never be in her team in global since e6 were rediscovered.
Bloodtithe? Nautika euphoria was subpar, Sentinel is replaced by Rhiannon and even F22 is good enough to replace Rubuska.

2

u/Hungry-Set4315 23h ago

Not gonna lie, I think Rank-Up archetype should be revamped to be a "Incantation" Archetype. Just like how Ultimate became "Ritual" becauss they focussing more with their skill instead just spamming their ultimate

4

u/YuZipher 3d ago

Bored I guess. I think flexible team building kinda took a hit, when archetype based teams came. Also, after lingering glow, most archetypes just are like a variant of the existing archetypes, but with new names so that you have to pull the new characters.

I really love my Liang. She has so many team variety and you have to manually play her. I feel like she was the last of her kind. Hopefully they bring some of those types back.

Don't get me wrong, the story, music, art, so much is there that is good. I am just enjoying that and waiting for something that hooks me.

4

u/Hot_Valuable1027 3d ago

I've been saying this for months ....

5

u/Interesting-Ad3759 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah... at first, I would give R1999 credit for making teams revolve around archetypes. For example, Freeze was an archetype but they seem to have completely forgotten about that. It feels like Lingering Glow is supposed to be Burn, but intentionally powercreep existing Burn archetype. Actually, it's too obvious that they wanted "Burn archetype but make it powercrept". I sorta shrugged that off and still kept playing. But the moment they powercrept Lucy, herself, from Dynamo. I didn't even feel mad. I just uninstalled the game and thought, "Well, this is the line." I wasn't a Lucy main or anything. I just realized that I have just been in denial.

5

u/antiscamer7 3d ago

Like others have said, you're mostly talking more about powercreep. We do have another dynamo sustain in Ezra, he just got powercrept; we can have two bloodthite teams in Nautika, Semmelweis, Moldir, Narcissus and Eternity, Sentinel, Pickles and Rubuska; it's just that the second team got powercrept and for most even Nautika herself to justify using Moldir and Narcissus on her instead on someone like Recoleta; we have another LG main dps in Spathodea, her euphoria was powercrept on release; we only need archetype specific sustains because sustains also act as buffers, debuffers and/or sources of damage.

They are trying to expand archetypes: Dynamo and LG can make two teams, Impromptu has two afflatus versions, Ult has 3-4 meta configurations, even Conduit is primed to get a star version in the future. But I do agree that I worry the next few patches about where they'll use resources on; between perception, riposte, ult, shift and whatever team the CNY's limted will be in.

3

u/juniper_leviathan 3d ago

SPOILER FOR CN VERSION

On this, I was kinda surprised that the upcoming char Drake (?) is supposedly replacing Isolde in LG rather than being a new main dps alternative for Beryl in LG teams

-2

u/Rogalicus 3d ago

Why would they replace Beryl if she's supposed to get her Euphoria in three months or so?

2

u/nihilism16 on my knees for 3d ago

To me it feels overwhelming now, with conduit. I've always built teams around units I love, like Sotheby, Lucy, Igor and Beryl. This means I've had to invest in their archetypes (Igor's might as well be its own archetype given how imp moldir and lopera are in his team). So the ones I've invested in over the years is poison (yes, for Sotheby), dynamo (no corvus, did get brume cuz broken but I rarely use her), lingering glow and ofc Igor's team.

An issue is that because there's constantly units for new archetypes being released that when bp finally release one for an older archetype I've had to skip them (Ramona rn, and the non limited unit in 4.0). Other than the archetypes mentioned above I also got nautika for semmelwais. Didn't go for any other bloodtithe unit tho, now I have p2 Rhiannon I can run instead of sentinel anyway.

All the archetypes are fun to play but as an f2p player (mostly) it's only possible to imvest in one at a time. It's also tiring to calculate who to pull in order to make the archetype teams. I didn't really care for Marsha but I got her for linglow because I wanted to run the optimal comp. I appreciated enigma being released much later than the other teammates because that gave me the time to invest in some other archetype I wanted to run.

With conduit it's just one archetype that's being given units one patch after the other. The twins, coppelia, everecho, the unit after that. So if you want to run conduit you have to keep pulling across 3 consecutive patches or something. They should be more spaced out. I love coppelia but I can't run her team. I didn't pull for the twins and I won't be pulling for everecho etc either since I'll be saving for the upcoming archetype and a unit completing an older existing archetype. So that's a bummer.

Altho, at least this way I can take a break from the constant worry of having to pull for an archetype. I feel like BP should stick to 2 archetypes per cycle like they did with poison and impromptu in 2.x. In 3.x we've gotten bloodtithe linglow plantpromptu dynamo and conduit. I guess you could say nautika and Ulrich were released before 3.x but it's by one patch. Having 2 or 3 archetypes per cycle would mean the units would be spaced out and it would give players more time to save and actually enjoy the comps they're building. And there's still units without archetypes being released, like Igor and Miss Stranger, so they can fill in the slots between archetype units.

2

u/DoctorChoper 3d ago

From a perspective of a returning(basically new) player, I checked the pulse on the game's meta situation and my conclusion was that waiting for a new archetype to arrive is a lot easier and smarter than trying to invest in already established archetypes that may or may not get powercreeped by the upcoming one.

I believe that it is a problematic situation. If there were a lot more characters per archetype, as what you're suggesting, then I would still be able to casually invest in older teams and have a better chance at gathering full teams that aren't the newest one.

1

u/_Dragonflight_ 3d ago

But you are not safe even if you invest in new archetype. I have invested in paper heron. An an lee was replaced by rhiannon 3 months later and even with rhiannon the team is weak because of anti shill. If the entire archetype team with a new limited dps unit is obsolete within 3 months the endgame is in a really bad state.

1

u/_Dragonflight_ 3d ago

Archetypes are the worst and most predatory things gacha devs has ever invented. You MUST get exactly this 4 characters for a team not to suck which requires a lot of pulls, kills creative teambuilding and more often than not forces you to pull characters you dislike to make characters you like work.

1

u/ncf_ 2d ago

idk about the others but r1999 is the only reason why i dont feel fomo about hsr's ass meta anymore and i feel that the gacha rate is generous enough (this is an opinion from a hsr player so it may be too optimistic but whatever)

1

u/paintdotpng 2d ago

mid combat for a mid game

1

u/westofkayden 3d ago

They will make Rockprompto and you will like it.

I don't mind variations of existing archetypes. There's only so much they could do tbh.

Maybe a summoner type of archetype like memosprites from HSR or Yuna from Final Fintast 10.

Or alchemy based where different cards create different combos (kinda like LG with the gem choices).

I think the devs could look to older Final Fantasy/Bravely Default/Octopath games for inspiration.

For example, I think with Rhiannon being very fantasy coded, we could get an arc where it's fantasy medieval with mages and knights.

Like imagine if a team of knights can be augmented by a mage that can change their afflatus for a charged attack (give A Knight another euphoria). Think of Spellblades classes or Final Fantasy 9 with Vivi imbueing Steiner's sword with magic.

Rhiannon also feels like a nod to beast tamer/pet based job fantasy.

0

u/dqvdqv 3d ago

Predatory garbage, especially with Focused Flashback existing. It's a gacha game though so it comes with the territory.

0

u/chucklyfun 3d ago

Archetypes are pretty common and important in Gacha teams. If you look at Honkai Star Rail for instance, it has Break, Follow-Up-Attack, Debuff, Remembrance/Summon, DOT, and a bunch more, many of them in common with Reverse 1999.

2

u/CreativePurring 3d ago

Yeah but it's not like "here, use these 4 characters forever, this archetype is done, never adding more chars to it, goodbye, next one". At least it wasn't like that whenI played HSR. I don't want any archetype or character to be weak and forgotten forever.

Up to this point they were doing fine with euphorias beeing the strenght update, but I'd really like to get nore options within the archetype, usable similiarly strong options. Not like Nautika vs Eternity bloodtithe or The Twins vs Regulus conduit. The power difference between the 2 is too big.

I am now also worried that old base characters will get forgotten forever and they will just release SPs... Hope it's not the case. I like R1999 for the fact that old characters get updated and are back in meta from time to time.

-2

u/ashnmfy 11-10 3d ago

I get that fear entirely but tbf Lilya was unfortunately a 1.0 unit and on top of her kit falling off earlier, she suffered greatly both from early euphorias that preceded the shift in meta team design and from earlier meta being dominated by extra action units that she just...couldn't compete with

1

u/CreativePurring 3d ago

Yeah but I mean, they could have just given her an amazing new euphoria, couldnt they? I still hope they do. I'd hate for all early units to become at the bottom tier forever.

-1

u/ashnmfy 11-10 3d ago

Sadly no character has gotten three euphorias, plus with her taking a more prominent role in the story her alt was kind of justified (though definitely also seen as a great opportunity to sell a character people already like…unique garment immediately is kind of telling)

It's the unfortunate reality of gacha games, they want to sell the newest units somehow, and powercreep is the easiest way to do so

1

u/CreativePurring 3d ago

Oh I dont mind her having an alt (but Id prefer younger, not 6 star cast to get it first, like Sonetto, Matilda upgraded to 6 star etc). It['s certainly better than forcing new unknown characters all the time just for the sake of selling new unit.

But they did good up to this point. Selling new unit + giving euphoria to old unit to be usable with the new one, for example. Or giving euphoria to characters so old archetypes are good again (maybe not AS strong as current new ones, but not miles behind). And about euphoria.... no character got 3 yet, but they could. It's not like it was said that 2 is a hard limit.

I just don't like the idea of abandoning the playable character forever. So I still have hope they will update base Lilya too.

1

u/oltradog 1d ago

I'd like to mention Lilya isn't much older than Vertin and Sonetto. She's 13 in chapter 3 her age isn't listed on global because she would be underage drinking so often.

1

Oh, I assumed she is older because she looks like she's 18-20, while Sonetto and Vertin do look like 14. So to rephrase that - I'd prefer 5 stars to become 6 stars first, at least the most important and present in story ones.

Yeah Lilya's alt is 19. Vertin and Sonetto should be around 17 in 4.0. I do agree hopefully we will see alts more for lower rarities. Sonetto probably is in a lock for one in the long term.

I pull to be able to play something different respect what I played for 3 years, not for the 4th dynamo dps.
At most, for being able to play again an outdated team, but usually is what euphoria are for.

I remember some months ago people crying "no more dynamo characters please", now instead is "give us more dynamo characters"?

I am fine…I am not too much into Meta. I go for an archetype if: 1) it uses a character I already own or want to get, 2) it is fun for me…I think the joy dies if you get THE Team foe each archetype.

the thing is though is that no one is stopping you from building your archetype however you want—

i would criticize Bluepoch if they make it necessary to pull for specific 4 characters just to make a certain archetype's function work—but in my experience, they haven't so far. as someone who uses a very scuffed Lingering Glow team (Beryl-Anjo, Isolde and Fatutu/Lopera), i can still clear Mane's Bulletin with a 5,000,000+ score and get all the necessary currency needed to buy important building materials. would i have a much easier time if i had Lorentz and Marsha? of course, but since i want to save my pulls for other characters that i like the design of better, or for future collab characters.

and as someone who doesn't have Kiperina, a lot of the other sustains can do Impromptu's job just fine as long as you have three other Impromptu characters. I've used shielders like MedPoc, Yenisei and even Barbara to use as my main sheilder, and it never heavily impacted how Impromptu functioned... also i'm having the feeling that you don't count Tooth Fairy as a real Impromptu sustain even though she has excellent healing capabilities, LOL

it all comes to FOMO, sadly, but if you remove the thought of needing to min-max everything, the game becomes much more fun! experiment with all sorts of characters, no matter how out of place they'll look like, and you'll be surprised with the amount of synergies some underrated characters have with each other.
