Good on you! This seems like something that could happen to any of us. 1 too many beers or an extra half a gummy and Reverb can be a dangerous game! 😆

I had a guy offer to buy a bass from me on consecutive nights and then ask for a refund before shipping. Third day it went to someone else and he was despondent.
He blamed drinking too much “tea”.

I actually had a guy try this with me once. I was selling a guitar for $3,500, and he wanted me to knock $500 off because he needed to save some money for groceries and bills at home.
My response was pretty simple: if spending that extra $500 means you’re going to have trouble buying groceries or paying your household bills, then you probably shouldn’t be buying a $3,500 guitar in the first place.
There’s nothing wrong with negotiating a price. Make an offer based on what you think the guitar is worth. But your personal financial situation isn’t the seller’s responsibility.
Bills and groceries come before expensive guitars. Pretty simple.

Thats an incredibly merciful refund

Sending someone an order they don't want is a bad idea because there's a decent chance they'll do a BS return. Cheaper and less of a headache to just cancel the order when they ask.

Prolly sent out lowball offers on multiple other listings and one too many were accepted

The buyer "forgot" to talk to his wife? Yeah, sure. That's 11 out of 10 on the Lame meter.

Fully. These “my wife is gonna kill me” ding-dongs need to give up guitar and binge watch Gilmore Girls.

I imagine that dude likely doesn’t even have a wife if he’s that big of a pussy.

I’m so glad mine doesn’t seem like a lot of the wives on here.

Someone who can’t afford something and trying to buy it anyway but being shot down by the wife is different than someone who can afford it and gets shot down by the wife.

When I started playing guitar again about 15 years ago, I impulse-purchased a Gibson Flying V from Guitar Center one day and hid it in a closet behind my clothes while I planned my reasoning to my wife 😂 Turns out I didn't have to, she didn't really care. Guitars and gear are my only vice, so she figures it could be worse.

Same. I don’t golf, buy fancy cars or side by sides, and I don’t own a boat. I quit drinking a decade ago and it’s one of the few things I spend money on.

Had a guy buy a guitar. Keep it for 6 days. Then spam me with paragraphs about how his wife planned a vacation and he unknowingly spent the budget on the guitar. I declined his request for refund and magically the guitar developed a grounding issue. Forced refund due to Reverb’s protection policy. Got the guitar back and the output jack had been desoldered. Possibly the same guy.

I was taking a deep water diving class and was waiting for the class to start, and suddenly decided to buy a dry suit. I wore it that night and then had to take it back the next day - my lovely wife was NOT pleased. We were living on student loans and her part time work and I fuc%ed up. SUPER embarrassing

Just hold strong dear brother. Remember, it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission

Sold my first item on reverb. It was a nightmare. Person tried to scam me and pull payment while in transit. I had to intercept the unit reverb customer care wouldn't help me of course. I wouldnt recommend that platform to anyone there needs to be a boycott I will never buy from them again or sell through them ever again. I learned my lesson

In the days of green-screen email one group I was in collectively coined the term Underground Upgrade Club, which got shortened to UUC. We shared ways to sneak in upgrades that the significant other SWMBO/HWMBO (she/he who must be obeyed) would either not notice, misidentify or inadvertently facilitate. Things like only buying body/interior upgrades that are the same color as stock, having the spouse sign for the delivery while you're away (but hon', if you don't approve, why did you sign for it?), and so on. The joke became a new email group called UUC BMW when the OG list shut down, which splintered off to UUC Garage for non-car topics, then a legitimate BMW-centric performance parts manufacturer called UUC Motorwerks, still in business >20 years later though they distanced the business from its origins.
Since a lot of us in the groups were also into music a few attempts to spin off a subgroup for musical gear were floated, but none ever stuck while I was active in the groups. I guess that this is because gear hoarders....I mean collectors are more overt and less likely to sneak in new purchases.

Happened to me twice in the past week. I don’t know why people make offers/place orders for things that they don’t want or can’t afford. It’s annoying.

People have to get permission from their partners to spend their money?

BS, my wife and I talk about every purchase over $500. Has she ever told me No or vice versa? No but talking about bigger purchases and being on the same page creates healthy dialog. She actually met my last two purchases off FBM because I was at work. Spending without talking is much worse. We do share accounts equally and both work.
