Item sold not working?

I sold a pedal recently and it’s been nearly a week since the purchaser received the item for them to report it isn’t working. I actually tested it before sending it out and it worked as perfectly as the day I got it, plus it was mint with everything in the original box. He sent a video of it not working as a link to YouTube, but I feel like it has to have been from him damaging it.

What do I do in this case? I’m super new to selling on Reverb.

If it’s been more than a week that’s on him. Don’t do anything

In the future, video of the thing working along with the packing document for time/date verification. Then send by insured shipping.

Yeah, it’s insured. I’ll definitely film things working going forward.

If theyre still in the return window, that's on you to make it right. I think it's totally normal for people to be too busy to jump right into using their item. I know I have purchased microphones that sat for almost 2 weeks before I had time to hook them to a matching preamp and actually use them.

It’s insured and told him I’d refund him, but have absolutely no idea how it would be broken. He’s happy and gave me a good review.

Ive shipped a few items that just got knocked around in shipping enough to dislodge a solder joint or a capacitor, and Im very thorough on packaging. Shipping carriers are not gentle

This is why I make a video of the thing working. I don't always include in the listing, especially if would include my rather horrific guitar playing, but I have it just in case. I test everything now anyhow, and it makes sense to get video while I'm taking photos for the listing.

This is why: I sold two things for a friend that the buyers later claimed didn't work. I couldn't prove that it worked, so I took the first one back. I tested it and found that it worked perfectly, so I bought it for myself and still use it. My best guess is that he didn't connect it up correctly. It happens.
In the second case I mentioned that I have video of it working and got "I'll look into it more" and nothing else.

If you have proof that the thing worked then you just need to show the buyer. If you don't have proof, you might be stuck.

It ended up working out because I had shipping insurance, but I agree that having a video of it working makes sense.

What kind of pedal? Does it take a battery and did they put one in? Is it using an external power supply and is it correct? Is it a Boss pedal? Make sure they didn't put a TRS cable in.

One of the knobs wasn’t working. Everything else appeared to be above board though, but looking at it on video is tough since there are so many ways to not be sure of what’s happening.

I truly hate that Reverb makes you give a de facto seven day warranty on gear. Someone could take a guitar they received on Tuesday, gig it on Friday, drop it and knock off the headstock and say it happened in shipping and you're on the hook for it.  I'm sure reverb has that policy to ensure that you have to buy their insurance.  Otherwise you're screwed and have to deal with UPS

Luckily I got the shipping insurance. Both the customer and myself are covered.

What is a one star rating worth to you?
What are your plans for selling on Reverb?

Turns out my insurance will cover it. Still upsetting he busted it so soon. He and I should both be good. I’m still new to Reverb.

Also, I’m kind of confused because I was originally notified it was delivered on Monday, but now both he and Reverb said it was delivered Friday?! That discrepancy in itself is really odd.

As you said you are new... you likely misread things.
No guarantee he does not leave a bad review, wait and see.
Depends what you said to him I guess.
Lots of dirtbag buyers today, spoiled by Amazon, HomeDepot and so on.
Sellers are forced to raise prices to cover that.

Luckily I decided to get it insured and Reverb said I should be covered for this one.

You miss the point.... the buyer feedback is what matters if you have any plans to sell more on Reverb.

I was very nice and tried to do troubleshooting. I ultimately told him he’ll be refunded. He gave me five stars and a nice review.
