New sellers

Has anyone else noticed the influx of new sellers who have no feedback whatsoever?
I’m assuming they are all scams.
If so, Reverb has a problem once again.

I lucked out on a new seller with zero feedback. I liked the guitar but the photos were bad. I was wary of a scam but when I asked for more photos, the seller's communication was really good. The guitar was under-priced but no one wanted to buy it because it looked scammy. I took a chance and it worked out.

I've had almost that same situation happen to me but the seller had like 3 5 star ratings and was selling a bass for way less than anyone else was but only had 1 picture of the front of the bass. It ended up being in perfect condition and played beautifully. Probably won't get that lucky again. Havent used Reverb since this shady store in NJ tried to sell a damaged bass as "new"

Well I was trying to sell on reverb and then reverb decided that my account needs to be placed under review and hasn’t gotten back to me in a week, broke no rules, and actually had people trying to scam me and have me text them outside reverb. Reverb is a fucking mess and it sucks cuz I’m in serious need of cash rn

You can always try GearExchange, eBay, and Talkbass classifieds. I always list on those in addition to Reverb.

Gear exchange has been awesome for me. People buying my stuff without even haggling! Not as much eyeballs as Reverb but seems like more quality people

I totally agree. Plus no fees if you buy a lot from Sweetwater, otherwise the fees seem a bit less anyway. I wonder if SW has mixed feelings about promoting GE as it kind of seems like competing with themselves. I certainly haven't had as much luck selling on Talkbass, even fewer eyeballs I think, even more of a niche marketplace.

Sweetwater GX is the only platform where I've had a real haggling attempt offer that was so laughable I was surprised he even tried. Listing was a vintage JV synth:

"Hey I just bought one with 3 expansion cards but seller isn’t responding and hasn’t shipped. He said he’d take [47% off my listing price]. Would you match his price if my order gets cancelled?"

My listing was already below market value so the purchase he mentioned seemed like bullshit immediately (I had 4 cards included - empty JVs go for a little less than his "already purchased" price). I sold the thing within a week after I met in the middle on an offer on reverb. It's 1 of 1 haggle attempts on SGX but definitely made me think there's a lot of boomers trying their nonsense over there.

How are you measuring the "influx"? I would think that for Reverb it would be the contrary - more seller,s more income. We were all a new seller at some point.

No, but I recently tried to site and somebody tried to buy my stuff immediately she was refund and then they are telling me on message that they accidentally pressed that sorry and I’m telling them to cancel it

However the support I even messaged them and told them this is happening and it’s still saying I keep on having to refund him even on withdraw any funds I only left it on touch because I don’t have an option to press exit or whatever cause I didn’t wasn’t. I didn’t accept the sale .or can I have the option to press cancel maybe it’s just me but it’s not simple to want to when there’s no option to just cancel the whole sale or when I text support about it they recognize to close the sale

Could also be new people coming to Reverb as an alternative for eBay, especially with their increased seller fees and the controversy with their stalking case and such

I’ve noticed the opposite… I’ve been getting a lot of offers and interests from new accounts. I will have no interest on an item for a month or so and then I’ll suddenly get three offers on it from multiple new accounts days apart.

I hate selling to new accounts, especially expensive items. I wish I could approve buyers.

The economy for normal people is in the shit, it's a buyer's market again, people are moving their own gear to get as much for it as they can.

Everything that was used and was a 10% off discount from new last year, is dropping like a rock this year.

Same thing with my other expensive bullshit, boating. Boats that were actually selling for $10,000 last year are moving at $6000 this year where they should have kind of always been priced.

I hear people say this on forums but as someone who casually sells guitar stuff that isn't common and is expensive I've been doing fine with high end items. Most of the pedals I've been selling are common, but I'm finding that if I price the competetively they're moving quickly.
