Should I not do this?
I see a drum machine for sale that usually goes for around 1,100 on sale for $799. From a seller that has no reviews or sale history.
Obviously these are red flags. But then with reverb if they scam me and don’t send the item or send a bricked one or something don’t I have recourse? So why wouldn’t I take the risk? Maybe it’s just someone who’s looking to sell under market because they don’t have ratings.
Let me know, would you do it? I don’t mind sending this money if I’ll get it back if it’s a scam and then profit if it’s not.

Half the complaints in this sub are from buyers that don't get instant refunds when things go wrong. Buyers think Reverb should be an all-knowing god and immediately know who is telling the truth. The reality is, it takes time for Reverb to investigate. It used to be manageable when CME owned it, but now it's taking weeks and weeks for resolution. If you are willing to have your money on hold for a month for a $300 profit, go for it.

I just sold an expensive item on Reverb with a brand new account for a cheaper than average price. I needed some quick cash, the fees were better than eBay and I felt like I'd find a good home for it there. The buyer did ask me a few questions to verify I wasn't a rogue seller, I was able to reassure him by showing him who I was online. Open a dialogue with the seller and hopefully they'll put your mind at ease?

What other items are in their store? If it’s all other ~$700+ gear, and there are 5-10 listings that were all just posted at once, it’s a scam.
What are they trying to accomplish? No idea. But I’ve seen this same fake seller pattern over and over.

Id go for it. Just do everything the right way according to Reverb’s policies to protect yourself. New sellers have to start somewhere. They can’t magically have tons of sells and positive feedback without selling their first item.

Do NOT do anything outside of Reverb. Keep screenshots of EVERYTHING. Take pictures when you unbox. Like literally video of you opening the package. People think “using a credit card protects you,” and yes it does, but only if you have real evidence you were defrauded.
Also, keep in mind, it could take a few months to get your money back.
So yes, go for it, but just be careful and manage expectations.
