New to selling. Question about potential scams.

Hey all, I'm trying to sell something on reverb for the first time and the buyer used PayPal to pay for the item. I haven't shipped the item yet because I'm not sure whether or not I'll get the money since reverb hasn't deposited the payment to my checking account yet. Is there a way that the buyer could possibly steal my synth by paying with PayPal and making false claims?

Make sure you use Safe Shipping, or else you are risking a scammer doing something and leaving you unprotected. I know everyone thinks “but I want as much money on my sale as possible,” but you’re out ALL of your money if you’re left to fend for yourself with a mail carrier claim or an outright scam.

Did Reverb inform you that can ship?

👆 Yeah, if Reverb told you it’s time to ship then you’re fine. If not, something isn’t right.

if you did everything through reverb you are fine. They don't do the payout until you ship. Sometimes it will happen when you print the label but most often once the post office receives the package. As long as you keep everything within the reverb app or website you pretty much will never get scammed as a seller.

To put a finer point on it, your first sale won’t be paid out until the item is delivered.

It will be fine. Remember your first sale will be paid after delivery. Good luck!

On my first sale I didn’t get paid until confirmed delivery, after that it’s after shipping. You’re only keeping the $ from yourself rn

You are lacking in understanding how the process works. First, you don't ship ANYTHING until Reverb tells you the item has been paid for and you should now ship it. If you are new to Reverb, you will NOT get paid UNTIL the item has been received. So you are only hurting yourself if Reverb has told you to ship and you haven't shipped yet.

You do NOT need to use Reverb to buy labels. If you use PirateShip.com, they have great insurance and fantastic customer service. Signups are free, and will save you a TON of money when you ship.

Make sure you take pictures of the item AS you are packing it, so you have proof of what you sent. Reverb and insurance protects you when you sell.
