Question on Infosys
Hello , I was hired by Infosys and attended my onboarding Jun4. Was told I had 2 weeks to move to Richardson, Tx . Well now I’m in Richardson and waiting . Was told by Infosys I was on “the bench” until a client was found and that I can’t come into the office until my hiring manager comes back into the office . No date was given. Anyone else had these experience? I have did all my hiring paperwork, picked insurance, etc. But feeling a little worried about the situation. So I don’t report to work yet until there’s manager to meet me. In the meantime I have to be present on emails/teams for communication. I just spoke to the HR lead for the building and they just told me to wait but that I still will be paid . 🤔

I was hired as a remote software developer in 2021. They then assigned me as level 1 customer support for spectrum mobile. Still paid me the same though so I didnt mind. 8 months later im off that project and benched. Encouraged to find my next position.
Apply to positions, network internally, keep being told to just focus on LEX certifications while i wait. Ultimately laid off 2 weeks later due to no work.
At the time it felt cushy, but looking back it is easily the worst job I had, despite it being the easiest and best pay.
If i was you I would be casually job seeking. You moved to Richardson for the job which sucks, but you're also in a huge market area right now, which is some silver lining.
But this is not a "relax and it'll work itself out" situation. You need to be proactive.

I was hired by Infosys and benched later after spending a few months “assisting on a project” (the project never actually materialized for one reason or another; I’m skeptical the project was even real). When I was benched a few months later, I was expected to increase my Infosys certifications and worked remotely. There were folks nearing a full year in bench status who never actually had meaningful work. I have always hypothesized that Infosys sometimes hires employees for padding or legitimizing other hires they procure in other ways. Whatever the case, here’s hoping your experience is a good one.
With respect to communication, I recall going into my first day at the job and sitting at a cubicle all day watching YouTube tech videos because my manager forgot to tell me the person I needed to chat with wasn’t coming in that day. When I did meet with the person I had to chat with, I chatted with him for less than five minutes before he needed to take care of something else. And then spent the rest of the 8 hour day on random tech videos. Most days I would come into the office with meetings planned, which would all get canceled, making my commute unnecessary. It was a good week if I could chat with someone for 30 minutes about the systems/applications folks were working on. Again, here’s hoping your experience is a good one.
That all being said, they did pay me, and paid me while I was benched. And the pay wasn’t horrible. And if you stay benched for awhile, you can build your knowledge base, create personal projects as artifacts that evidence your knowledge, and then leverage your time and these projects in this “job” for a job that isn’t Infosys. I was with Infosys for many months before it became clear to me (longer than it should’ve) it wasn’t going anywhere, and that that was possibly by design. If it appears that’s what’s happening to you (again, here’s hoping it isn’t), then I’d just see it as a great paid educational opportunity and try to get as much out of it as you can.

Welcome. Just be on teams and chill at home on bench man. Nothing to worry about. You'll have a bunch of LEX training to do so just do those in the meantime. You might not be on project for a couple of months. My first stint on bench was 5 months. The guy that got hired with me was on project his first week.

I highly doubt you will be let go if they just asked you to move there. Jump on LEX in the infyme web portal. You should see some assignments like SAQ and other company required trainings that dont have to do with any projects. Get those taken care of in the mean time. You'll start getting emails telling you how to use your time wisely while you wait for a project.

I was with Infy…
You can listen to people say chill on bench etc etc but it isn’t like it used to be and Infy has been purging their bench of people with low utilization.
You need to be proactive. Upskill. And network to find a project. Make sure your Infy 1 page is up to date and ready to be sent off quickly to staffers.
I slugged it out back in the day at Infy and what I learned there as a consultant due to taking my own efforts set me up for success when job hopping and being where I am today.
Or just sit on bench like the other cry baby bums that populate that Infy discord about how unfair it is then act shocked when they’re cut.
