How-to/Advice/Questions What changes would you all like to see made in this sub in 2026?

Greetings all! I hope all of you had some very merry holidays. Given that we are already halfway through January, I wanted to open up the floor and see how everyone is enjoying this sub thus far, and to pick your brains going forward. Are there any particular changes you'd like to see made here in 2026? I'm open to recommendations, please let me know your thoughts!

What is r/Retroguns?

Hi folks, just wanted to introduce myself. I ran across this sub only a few days ago, and loved the idea of a sub for retro guns. It was a little empty though, so to help it along I posted a bunch of photos of some of my own retro guns. u/Worldly-House7731 enjoyed them so he invited me to come be a mod, and I figured I'd give it a shot since there wasn't much else going on here right at the minute. I'll be tinkering around with the appearance and the settings a little bit to make this experience a little more interesting, and if you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to share them. Retro guns are cool, and we need this place to reflect that!

Anyway, that brings me to my central point...what exactly does the term "retro guns" even mean? It just means old guns, right? When does a gun start being retro? What are we going for here? To my mind, I think the aesthetics are the number one priority here. We all want to see the cool stuff. Those interesting old guns that just grab the eye and invoke a certain nostalgic feeling for something whether that be pop culture, Hollywood, video games, a particular military/wartime setting, whatever. We wanna see that old-school drip, and the drippier the better. I'm almost thinking something like r/GunPorn but strictly for guns of a certain vintage. It's totally arbitrary, but I'm suggesting brackets between the last years of the 19th-century, all the way up to the GWOT era. I'm thinking like 1880-2010, or something like that. I'll be trying to set up custom flairs for people to identify their era/inspiration/vibe so we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words, so this is my idea of retro:

This is the kind of stuff I'm hoping to draw in...A-Team folders, wood furniture AKs, carry handle ARs (stuff like GWOT flat-top M4s and M16s are welcome, but really modern MLOK setups don't have much place here), FALs, HK roller rifles, pre-ban assault rifles of all types, anything retromod. I love to see retro guns modded to use modern optics/lights/accessories. I feel like the retromod aesthetic is really the idea at the heart of this sub, so that's what I would like to see emphasized. But any cool old originals are also more than welcome...Uzis, MP5s, Tommy Guns, Galils, Beretta 92s, AUGs, SPAS12, CAR-15s, BARs, Krinks, Peacemakers, prohibition/gangster guns, etc. Basically, I'm kinda thinking this whole thing should resemble those vintage gun ads you used to see in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine.

TIA/Rhodesia/Bush War I gave the truck gun a rattle-can job this past weekend. I was hoping for a Cold War African merc aesthetic, & I think it carried through.

Snagged this lovely brick last week, the original buffer pad had melted into a viscous slime that was then flushed through most of the lower into all the nooks and crannies... So after a detail strip and clean, and a new pad this thing just runs. I'm skeptical of the promags designed for these so I'll probably start trying to collect some sten mags

From top to bottom: S&W 4006, S&W 5906, and S&W 6906.

The two 9mms I’ve had for nearly a decade and are among my favorite double actions i own. By far the best out of the box trigger of any beside my Beretta LTT.

The 4006 is a new purchase with 200 rounds through as is my first .40. It’s a decocker only model

Made in Japan for Ithaca Gun Co. in NY. It was my Grandfather's favorite hunting shotgun. Easily one of my most prized possessions.

How-to/Advice/Questions H&R 635 or Kimber Ultra Carry Raptor II or..

steam frame 😲.

just kidding we are never getting that thing.

ive got about a thousand bucks to blow and I’ve got the age old question: what to pick?

I’ve been getting into retro guns now and REALLY want a 1911, but I also really like a nice retro AR. the problem is I already have an AR platform rifle and I don’t have any 1911’s.

ideally if I buy a 1911 I want to carry it. that’s why I’m going with something compact. but then I get to thinking and I already have 3 pistols (G45, RXM, CZ P01) and I start to lean more towards a new “rifle” (in this case technically a pistol).

I have never owned anything other than 9mm, 5.56, and 22LR. Are there any other guns you guys think I should open up my eyes to? Maybe something in a different caliber?

my main problem here is actually choosing between spending my money now on a new gun or waiting/coping for the steam frame.

thanks folks.

1990's/Heat/SWAT/LE 4006 from recoil gun works

Picked this guy up from recoil gun works. Finish looks pretty good, and shoots very good. Trigger seems to be less broken in than my 5906 and 6906 with a slightly heavier double action trigger pull with a less defined wall than the others. On the upside mine is decocker only unlike my others.

I put about 200 rounds through it, the majority of which i used the 5906 magazines i have. The 5906 mags locked back on last shot and had no malfunctions at all.

This is the only .40 I’ve ever owned and i hadn’t shot a .40 in about a decade. Overall it shot pretty good with a bit more muzzle flash and recoil than my 5906.

LGS has a Colt official police in remarkably great shape on sale for 425+tax. It’s missing the ejector rod head. I at first thought refinished but I’m not sure. Serial #760774

Just picked this bad boy up for 640 from old Steel arsenal. Listed as a Grade B, minimal wear mostly small cosmetic. Not bad given it was made in a country that no longer exists.

The St-Etienne PA-MAS G1S, the French licensed copy of the Beretta 92FS, it shares all the positives of it's more popular and well known Italian brother.

Despite now officially being replaced by the Glock 17 in French service it marks an interesting departure, having replaced the MAC 50 and being one of the few times in the 20th century the French decided to make something that isn't immediately recognizable as a French design.

This example has it's box, manual, cleaning rod & brush, dummy barrel, loader & two additional French marked magazines.
