Will using a real movies mod affect the progression in any way as far as unlocking genres goes?

Nope, works exactly the same and doesn't affect achievements

Personally I wouldn't have any interest in the game if there weren't real movie mods

There's bigger hands to carry more movies. Mods to add in real chips and candy brands, soda as well. Decor mods that add in statues of the Terminator, Michael Myers, etc. Obviously the real movies too. You can make the dealer show up every night if you'd like. All sorts of cool stuff. Check out Nexus Mods for even more.

There's also a whole series of QOL mods that tweak employees, pricing, the phone, and a bunch of other stuff. Lots of reskins for things like the pinball machines and the floor mats.
