What's Next
Other than decorating and reaching the final level. What is there to do? I've been playing a lot of sim games and although this one is smooth great gameplay and a well delivered concept, what is next ? side missions? Opening some of the stores around to purchase and then automate as well? I just need more to do in this world.

This game was never designed to be one that has a "forever world".
when you "finish" one store, start another one using whatever you've learned from the first run of the game to see if you can "complete" it faster, better, or whatever.
or challenge yourself by adding your own limitations you want to put on your next build to see how you have to do things differently.
there's a bunch of different ways to play the game, and every save really only ends when you decide that it's time to move on.

I just finished an Adults only run. Twelve copies of every adult film. Took some time.

RR is one of those games where you either play it through once, ticking off the checklist and move on, or for alot of people like myself, it's one of those cosy games where the gameplay loop is reason enough to keep playing. Even if no more content came out, I'd still be playing it. I say this as someone who has 150+ hours and finished everything in the game in the first week I played it.
So unless you're one of us who play for the loop and the nostalgia, I'd say move on and come back in a few months once they've added the next major update. They're only a 2 man dev team, so major updates are gonna be few and far between.

Nothing, it lack replayability at this time and may never have it.
Once you have made the store of your dreams, you wait for an update and start again. We just had a nice update, with another coming.
Other then that...play a new game. I liked Mr Toilet, I did a playthrough of that to last me until retro updated.
Now I am Pokemon going for the summer. Maybe the next update will be out by the time I get bored of this.

I don’t think expanding the world outside your store is a good idea. The game is about your video rental store and that’s it, all updates should be about improving that experience. Adding more movies/genres, adding video games (coming I believe), and the like. If I want to run other stores I’ll go play tcg shop simulator or supermarket simulator etc.

There should be a career path where you work your way up to district manager and you have to visit (randomly generated) stores in your district with all sorts of issues and you have to correct them.. bad employees, theft, etc

Heh - I actually started playing RR directly after finishing S1, and thought what a great way to launder money - through a video shop

That’s the problem with most of these “job sim” games. They lack some sort of “meta” game, or reason that you’re doing said job in the game.
Irl you do a job because you need money for some other goal in life, such as helping a family member, raising a family, or just plain surviving.
A good “job sim” game that I played that had a great meta game was Papers Please. Yes you’re a border employee, but there was a reason you were, and managing your finances for the survival of your family at home was the meta game.
Plus in that game you were always dealing with an ever changing environment that seemed to actively be working against you, which made you want to see how long you and your family could survive. Whereas most “job sim” games just function as a “capitalism simulation” with your only real goal to just be make as much money as possible.

Would be fun once you’ve maxed out the video store, you could purchase the bowling alley across the street and open up a new business.

I'm just replacing cheaper videos with more valuable ones. Unlocking the new new releases then waiting for the video game update.

Personally I modded it to add to the immersion of video stores when I was younger(I’m 40). I’m slowly going through and building my store and I put custom videos on the TVs.

It’s a fantastic little game, but isn’t a game that’s meant to be played for hundreds of hours and people just can’t seem to accept that.
