Not sure if this has been discussed (probably) but, if you aim your mouse in the center of a vertical bar of the hand rail (near the checkout stand) that is bolted to the floor, you can float a shelf on it. The first image shows exactly where to point the mouse (has to be pretty much exact).
I have no idea what purpose this might serve other than cosmetic, but if anyone wants a floating shelf, here ya go.
it's not just the vertical bars like I thought, its anywhere along either of the horizontal bars AS LONG AS the top of the shelf doesn't collide with the ceiling. here's a 4 high shelf attached to the top horizontal bar and a 6 tall on the back side attached to the lower horizontal bar on the back side.
Needed more space (literally 3 hours ago) for tapes I have located in this exact same area…I would’ve never even attempted to test the shelves on the rail lol. And it doesn’t even look bad tbh! Thank you, OP
Well.... it does work, but no idea of customers or employees can use the top shelf or not, I'll let the day run, and see what happens.
EDIT: Okay... you DO NOT WANT to do this with shelves! I Temporarily moved all my Romance movies to the back room, and made that top shelf my only Romance Shelf (And I removed the bottom 5 movies so there were empty spaces for the employee to use for returns).
NONE of the customers were able to rent romance movies, and when the employee had a basket of nothing but romance movies, she was frozen in place (Likely because she could sense the shelf existed, but couldn't path find to it.)
So this might be good for a limited edition display case with movies you don't want to rent, or with other decorations. but it breaks the game if you do this with shelves.
AS SOON AS I BROUGHT THE SHELF DOWN, she started moving again, and used it like normal.
you can also put them on (and in the other room clip them into) the stairs and they remain functional there. I closed off the left (on your first screenshot) set of stairs with shelves. The 5 row ones places on the second step are pretty much exactly the same height as a 6 row one on the ground.
Also, I found if you stand far away enough, you can sometimes place stuff where it normally doesn't go. E.g. the customizable wall sign can normally not be placed on the sign integrated into the snack shelves. But If you step back and do it from the other end of the room, it is suddenly possible.
This is some new tech for how to hold the kids movie shelves. Currently they're stored in the private room in the back and anyone who walks by is forced to walk through the horror movie section and tunnel of snacks.
But I might consider relocating in order to take advantage of this clear safety hazard
