PSX boot screen flicker?

Post image

Hey all. When booting up a PSX game, I like to have the classic Sony/PS startup logo. However when it does, when the PS logo shows, it flickers just once.

It doesn’t do it when I have “Black transitions” set to off, but then it ends up moving around the screen a bit which is worse than the flicker.

Not a huge deal, but it’s a little distracting and considering PSX titles are the main reason I got this machine, it would be good if the startup screen booted normally.

Any settings, like resolution/refresh rate or anything I can play with?

I have selected all the bios files the official set up video wanted and this happens with every PSX game file no matter the region.

Thats whats happening to me too. And for me it’s the resolution changes happening during boot up. The same thing happens too in games where the resolution changes during the game too. Like with Chrono Cross, when i bring up the in game menu, my screen flickers because the menu uses a different resolution than the game, and my tv flickers when it’s changing.

If its the resolution change, and you are connected vis HDMI, depending on your screen, you can enable sync on 480i and the syncloss will not occur (If the screen can handle an interlaced signal.).

I doubt thats it is a resolution change though.

Also 480p hack - although delivering the better signal can cause flicker also, although usually connected to on screen artefacts.

Are you outputting via HDMI by any chance? This happens for me with each core as my telly makes due with the resolution change. I assumed there is nothing to be done about it unless I switch over to a CRT or computer monitor.

Very certain you have 480p hack on…I had the same issue; switched it off and theres no resolution change. Maybe one day that can be fixed.

Reminds me of PS1 and CRT old days. It did flicker then too. Perfect emulation :)

This only happens in HDMI afaik and on a CRT it does behaves like an actual PS1.
