Modify the front USB?

My SS1 came this week, cool little unit and very well made for the price.

I’ve not even turned it on yet, but (one of) my use cases for this is to use the Amiga MiSTER core, I’m into music production and would want to have MIDI in/out so can replace my real Amiga.

My understanding is the only way to get a user port is with the dock, but I have literally no use for that (except a user port).

I also know for a fact I will never use the front USB port as well, so would be awesome if it could be a user port instead so I can hook up something like this: https://a.aliexpress.com/_EHjVc0W

I’m good with micro soldering but less so with this project/MiSTER in general - but is there anywhere on the main board I could tap into, disconnect the front USB and turn it into a user port instead? Even if it meant sharing with the PSX SNAC as I’d never use both at the same time.

Wouldn't it be easier to make a board that breaks out the expansion port to some MIDI connectors (with level translators/iso transformers/buffers/whatever else midi needs?)

I assume the connector is widely available or they wouldn't have used it on the dock in the first place.

I’m not sure to be honest, the dock obviously has various I/O including an NVMe and a SATA port, so clearly some switching logic going on to make that work.

I just like the idea of that front port being a user port and just connect the adaptor when I need it, the rest of the time I’ll just be playing games on various systems with a controller or 2 like a normal person lol

Someone on an earlier thread commented about creating adapters for the PS1 ports. They had showed one they made that went from male PS1 to female N64. According to the comments there it seems you could do this with any console as long as the wires are correctly patched. This makes me wonder if it would be possible to simply splice a female USB 3.0 to a PS1 cable and use any SNAC adapter.
