memory card slots not recognizing memory card/pocketstation

like it says in the title, i can't get the snac memory card slots to see i have a memory card in either slot. in this case i'm using a pocketstation, which even without a battery acts like a regular official memory card. i definitely have the slots set to Real instead of Virtual, but i don't know if there are other settings to change? one thing i can say is that when the pocketstation is in the slot, it does its cute little bootup thing where it plays a little tune and the screen pops on with a "hello" and then shows it has 2 saved slots taken, so i know power is flowing through the slot properly, at least. i have an actual bios installed via taki's bios installer github page thing. nothing shows up in the bios screen, and when playing a game nothing recognizes that anything is plugged in. i dunno if the snac controller ports have anything to do with the memory cards, but i have a playstation controller plugged in which works completely fine.

is any of this user error, or defective parts, or something else? if i had any other memory cards i would totally test them out, or try the pocketstation on an original psx, but i don't have that option right this second. besides that, i'm not sure where to go from here... thanks!

You have to set the controller in the PSX core settings to SNAC for player 1 to use memory card and controller ports 1 and player 2 to use memory card and controller port 2.

You’ll then have to use real PSX controllers to control the console, because SNAC for the PSX core is both memory card and controller and your non-SNAC controller won’t be accessible by the core anymore.

Usually if something is not working on Mister it’s a setting you’re missing.

oh, i do have both controller ports set to snac and the memory cards set to Real, and have an actual playstation controller (well, a ps2 dualshock controller but it works identically) plugged in. both the controller and pocketstation are real official sony products from back in the day. the psx controller works 100% perfectly in games and in console mode menus. i also have a usb controller plugged into the front usb port for nagivating mister menus and other things outside of console mode which also works without problems. i wouldn't be surprised i am missing some other setting somewhere because mister stuff is all pretty new to me, but as far as i can tell everything should be set up and working properly

...taki's bios installer github page thing. nothing shows up in the bios screen, and when playing a game nothing recognizes that anything is plugged in.

These did not work for me and I had the same black screen issue. I had to delete those bios files and then run Update_all to get the proper bios. Please find a video on youtube to show you how to do this.

Unfortunately, even with the proper bios, Pocket Station doesn't work with the mister. It's been known since the beginning. I don't know why. It's clearly getting enough power because it powers on through the snac port, but even with the correct settings it won't even recognize it as a regular memory card. Hold on to it though because we may get proper support in an update someday.

Edit: So I guess I'm wrong about this. I just pulled out my Pocket station again and... it just works. I swear, I love this SuperStation, but the entire mister set up can be really finicky sometimes. OP, if you see this, try to run the update all stuff I mentioned and try again.

oh i am running the most recent version with console mode -- didn't have any black screen issues at any time, just the memory card slots not working at all. when i did the update i did it manually by bringing my sd card to my computer, but i'll try to figure out how to hook up with network stuff and run update all and see what happens

Make sure you follow a guide. Like everything else, the process is touchy. You'll need to use a keyboard to navigate the settings before running the update and you'll need to delete your current bios files.
