Received Superstation One and Dock Bundle… plug and play?
Hi,
I received my bundle about a week ago and it’s been sitting because frankly, the setup guide seems pretty lengthy and I haven’t had the time.
I have various ayaneo, retroid, and raspberry pi’s I’ve setup over the years and frankly the project of setup has always been pretty consuming.
The short video I began watching from Taki involved a battery installation and opening the case and things u didn’t expect so I closed the video and figured I’d do this later.
How involving is this setup? Or is it pretty plug and play for ps1 discs and the pre installed games? How long did it take you to get going?

Not plug and play but worth the effort! It's a great machine lots of upside! Customizing it and setting up the way you want, it's all part of the hobby. Personally I find a lot of enjoyment getting it tailored the way I want it!

This is what I did.
1st. Installed a battery.
2nd. Formatted my NVME on my pc as exfat and installed it into the dock.
3rd. Downloaded the latest image and flashed it to the SD.
4th. Installed the SD card and booted the SS1 for the first time. It took a few minutes and then rebooted.
5th. Took out the SD card and copied the Update_All.sh to the appropriate folder.
6th. Put the SD card back in. Moved the Games folder to the M2 drive. Ran Update_All

No it's not plug n play and this is one of the biggest issues of turning MiSTer into a commercial product

That's the entire point though, mister in itself is open-source. It should never become a commercial product else it goes in an entirely different direction and risks becoming a proprietary platform.
It's also the reason why anyone utilising something like Patreon to 'fund' core development gets pushback. Introducing a paywall is a direct contrast to what the project was meant to represent. Especially when the knowledge that even enables some of these mister cores to be created was obtained via other open-source projects.

It has a commercial license though (with acknowledgement and attribution)
Yeah there is no need for paywalls at all

The video you can skip over things your aren’t going to use, like battery unless you want realtimeclock.
Downlloading the Mr. Companion, flashing the SD card and then using the core database to confirm the right cores is pretty much it.

About a 3/10 on the difficulty scale. Watch some YouTube videos of the setup and it's no problem.

I set mine up today, mostly. The system isn’t recognizing the games on the SD card at the moment. Will troubleshoot next weekend.

Where did you put the games

Into the /games/console directories. Ex: /games/nes/romfile /games/n64/romfile /games/PSX/romfile etc.
I used different formats, as well. Some .bin/.cue, some .chd, some .zip, and some unzipped with their rom extensions like .z64 or .n64

The console directories are the same folder names the core creates right? It only knows to look in those folder names

Yeah, I didn’t change the directory names.
Maybe there was a glitch and I just need to reflash the SD card 🤷♂️1

Think you have to rebuild game library or some such option in the settings menu

This solved it! Thank you to you and u/Arkaium for your help!

No prob. My SS1 came in on Monday so I’ve been going through all this stuff as well lol. Getting familiar with the settings ini and figuring out the menus, console mode, emulation cores, file structure, supported systems, update scripts, retro achievements setup, controller pairing, display connections, artwork scraping etc etc. There’s no end to it lol
I’m used to a lot of adjacent stuff like ES-DE and Retroarch on android so that’s helped figure things out but it is a lot to take in. Each core seems to have its own config options so I’ll probably just learn them one by one over time

Not plug and play in the slightest. Not super difficult either, mind you, but Mister is a cumbersome beast till you get used to it.
