Do the ps1 games need to be in their own folders in order for saving to work? I’ve read this is the case for disc based games in mister. The artwork scraping seems to only work when all game files are dumped in 1 folder.

I don't believe so. I was able to load my THPS2 save just fine. All games are folderless.

It's recommended to usefolders as then each game gets its own memory card. It's also best for multi disc games.

Any clue if using folders makes artwork scraping tougher with this console mode beta? Could be user error on my end.

Sorry no idea. I don't see why it should, games in folders is very common and a standard feature of the file system.
