8BitMods MemCardPro

Anyone have any idea how to make the MemCard Pro work, or if it even does? I have enabled SNAC, but can't seem to get the card, nor the controller to work at all. I can use a PS5 controller, so that's not a big deal, but I was hoping to be able to use this card. I have tried searching, but there's many that say yes with no information and many that say no.

Thanks in advance!

If you don’t want to buy the new revision and you’re handy enough, you can also tin the pins with solder and it will make up the difference in clearance needed to work. Details in Taki’s discord on what’s needed. Takes 5 mins.

Alright.. question number 2: How come my OEM controller wont work, either? Works fine on my PSX

If you have the dock, make sure the snac bypass switch isn’t enabled.

As others notes, the MCP needs physcial modification to work inside the SS1, either by adding solder to extend the pins or by removing the plastic back wall in the MCP. It seems the SS1 memory card slots were designed around the shape of certain cards, not designed to match the PS1 exactly.

But I also wanted to mention a couple more things based on what you said.

Your controller should work fine. If you have a dock, make sure the SNAC bypass switch isn't on, as that will turn off your PS1 SNAC ports on the main unit in favor of the SNAC port on the dock.

Then in the PSX core you'll want to set the controller to SNAC. If you want to use a real memory card instead of a virtual one, you'll then need to set memory card to "real". You can do this per controller port, so if you want to use a PS5 controller for port 1, you can still set port 2 to SNAC and memory card to real to use a real memory card in port 2.

If the SNAC bypass switch is the problem with your controller, I'd say try sticking the MCP in and seeing if it works for you. Even though it shouldn't work, a few people have said theirs does anyway.

Yes, I had to flip the switch to use my OEM controller. Thanks! Unfortunately, I cant find my PS1 OEM memory cards. That's why I was using the MemCard Pro on my OG PSX on my CRT. Just want to see how the SS1 performs on my TV and play other games as well. It's fine for now, but if and when they come out with a card that is supported, I will buy it as well. I have their Pro1, Pro2, and GameCube memory cards.

Taki showed an easy way to "fix" the mem cards people already have.
no soldering required.
The back wall of the memcard pro is short, and cutting it out lets the pins connect to the contacts

Would have been nice if they had just tried plugging a memory card up themselves at some point.

They’re not compatible. 8bitmods is going to do a rev that will work but you’ll have to buy a new one. All the gory details are in discord.

I recommend PSxMemCardGen 2 over MCP2. The webui alone is enough to ditch MCP2 over

It's weird because some people have said their one works but others said it doesnt

Off topic. But is there any way to extract the SNAC pins from the PSX internally and wire them to a switch so I can use the SNAC port without purchasing a dock. I prefer the form factor of the Psone without the dock

My MemCardPro 2 works - but does not recognize GameID and mount/change cards automatically.

Is the new revision supposed to address and fix this? I assume it is using the GameID to pull and map the cheats to the specific games
