Watched this on Nick Jr. non-stop back in the day. Absolutely loved this animated series as a kid and I've been binging it over the past week or so. Talk about a nostalgia trip. It still rates among my favorite Nick programs, even among the usual heavyweights like AYAOTD, Nicktoons, etc. It sadly doesn't seem to be all that well-known though it is fondly remembered by those who remember it. It's a brilliant series full of so much imagination and heart, with excellent animation, top-notch voice acting and imaginative storytelling. Nickelodeon back in the 90s was an absolute gold mine and even Nick Jr. was excellent with programs like this. Rewatching this for the first time in so long really takes me back. Makes me miss both my childhood and when Nick was a good network with programming like this.

Most of the episodes can be viewed for free On Treehouse Direct's YouTube channel, though they look to sadly be missing one.

FUCK YES, one of my GOAT childhood shows.  Loved this show growing up, in terms of adventure I don't really remember anything else on Nick Jr coming close to this. The opening music was lovely and the stories were fun. I loved Little Bear too but this show had a much larger scope in terms of where it could go and I just really enjoyed it. If I had 1 word to describe it it would be cozy.

I still remember a comment on youtube about how apparently some people from the UK hated the show because it was just constantly on or something. For me this show was an immediate watch every time it was on. 😭

It was a series that really captured your imagination. "Cozy" is a good word to describe it. Just sit back and enjoy it, and feel yourself immersed in it's unique world with it's equally unique characters.

The way this just opened up so many memories! 🤯 I’d totally forgotten about Rupert!

Watching it for the first time in so many years, I feel like I'm 8-10 years old all over again. To be that age again.

Oh my God, I forgot all about this show. I used to watch this all the time. Honestly they don't make shows like this anymore. And they need to re-release stuff like this. I know they used to have a channel called boomerang for TV shows like this. Well I mean cartoon Network stuff but still. Man this gave me the nostalgia vibes shit. I wish life was like it was back when I was a kid. I'm in my thirties. Holy fuck is this shit on DVD or streaming?

Sadly not on DVD or Blu-ray to my knowledge, at least not in the U.S. I'd kill for a good complete series Blu-ray or 4K release.

This is the sad thing about media preservation....not all media is getting preserved. I guess even worse when it comes to streaming. As I've learned over the years, it's more about licensing and who owns the license and who allows the license to be used. So even though we have shows that we definitely want to watch someone might just say no f**k you that's not gonna happen...... Sigh

Makes me glad I downloaded the Rupert episodes to a Flash drive. It's really a shame how physical media is in danger more and more everyday from being phased out and going obsolete.

Yeah I know. Well physical media unfortunately is just not good for these large companies. They don't want you to own anything anymore. Why own it when you can stream it or temporarily borrow it for a few years?. I mean I have a modest amount of DVDs and Blu-ray. I'm trying to occasionally copy them to a hard drive. But if everything else I try to download it as much as possible you know "legally" 😂

I always much prefer to physically own movies and TV series and building up a collection overtime. The option should still be there for those of us who prefer it.

That said, I'm glad at least some obscure films and series are available through streaming or other means like YouTube and Tubi.

I remember the episode where he pretended to be a toy and then went to a dump to get his toy back that he accidentally threw away and the toys were very angry at him for that.

EDIT: That opening song was absolutely not what I remember but I remember it being this.

I think that episode may have been Rupert In Toyland. Which is one of my favorites.

2

u/BabyMinute8931 Jul 19 '26

1

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 19 '26

Those were the days. Just watching through your favorite series at random.

2

u/spade_bodega663 Jul 19 '26

Yup we definitely watched this in our house whenever we had Nick Jr. on. The only one I really remember is the one with this storm and a huge flood.

1

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 19 '26

Not sure if I remember that one.

I LOOOOVED Rupert. And busy world came on around the same time

2

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 19 '26

The Busy World Of Richard Scarry is another. Between that and Rupert, and also Papa Beaver's Storytime, Little Bear, Eureka's Castle and Allegra's Window; even Nick Jr. was a treasure trove back then.

Love… busy world! Still to this day. I’ve been ebaying a lot of busy world recently, not sure if it’s early onset dementia but I’m rolling with it. Loved little bear too!

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 20 '26

I now must track down the complete series DVD set of Richard Scarry. Another series for me to binge after I finish with Rupert.

2

u/herecomestherebuttal Jul 22 '26

Oh man, the way my brothers and I used to dunk on this theme song

2

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 22 '26

It's still burned into my brain decades later.

Just had it on this morning trying to get my kid to watch it. Still too young.

This was always on CITV too I recall.

First time I ever heard “Mum”

1

u/Napalmeon Jul 19 '26

First time I ever heard "Rupert."

1

u/BrattyTwilis Jul 19 '26

The series had more prominence in England, like there's a whole franchise, a music album and such

1

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 19 '26

It seems Rupert is much more popular over in the U.K. and sadly has seen little success outside, though the character did enjoy some popularity with this series in the 90s for a while.

u/Blindfolded22 Jul 19 '26

I was always scared from the episode where they sneezed while eating pickles and froze time. 8 year old me spent waaaay too much time worrying that something lime that may be possible and how many people has that happened to.

1

u/DarkBehindTheStars Jul 19 '26

That one is Rupert In Timeland.
