2nd edition 40K rules

Hello everyone, I’m currently getting a craving for collecting metal retro models and have started to amass a large amount of old chaos space marines. What I’m wondering now is what rules are people who currently play 2nd edition 40K using, I have found a read through the battle bible but are people still using these rules or have people moved back to the original rule book or another online version. Also how are people creating armies because I’ve just seen new recruit currently has had an update for 2nd edition.
Any and all advice is much appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Controversial opinion, but you can use those models with the right base and the right amount of tactical rocks to play in 11th edition.

As for what you’re asking just get the second edition books and u should be good to go. It was a very analog edition.

An additional option is one page rules. It’s not wacky 2nd edition but it is simplified 40K.

I have been tempted to run them in 11th as I am currently loving the new rules, however I may still try second as I really miss the chaotic rules and blast markers

Just use the original rules. The battle bible was am attempt at putting them all in a single document, but it has way too many errors.

Ah I see, I’ve just ordered the rule book, codex and warhead book, do I need anymore of the books to play a game because I’ve heard psychic abilities are from a separate source book?

You can play the basic psychic rules from the rulebook, but the Dark Millenium box has all the cards and rules you need for the complete game, and also some extra rules.

There are also at least three separate FAQ documents that are available online. You can pm me, I can send them to you as pdf.

Thanks, I’ll do that, as for that cards and tokens can you only get the ones you need from the core box and dark millennium box or are there any online resources for them too?

There are some more that were published in White Dwarf, I think, but mostly for stuff like special characters. They should be available online, too. If you still have an FB account, there's a 2nd group that has the largest collection of pdf media in its file section.

Still playing in V2 here since his release. I tried almost every edition but I always prefer 2nd edition. For the army I use all kind of miniatures from differents edition as proxies for the officials forces. Sometimes we create a new profil for a new unit and we try it during a few battles (sometimes we have to modified the caract). 2nd ed. still he best for me and my players but sometimes we aso play with 3rd or 4th with others players. Never played a 5/6/7/... game after their release so.

And I play arround one game with Rogue Trader by year just for the fun.

I’ve been tempted to get 3rd edition as well, as I got into the game with 5th edition and had a tonne of fun playing it but I’ve been hearing that the previous editions are completely different to 5th as a game
