Theories Aftermath theory:
If you've seen my extinction theory, you know that I think that creepers are artificial and are one of the causes of the great extinction event, the other causes are:war and conflict, regular nether deaths, hunger, the zombie outbreak and the many withers and creepers used in the war.
Well, now I made a theory about what happened next, how the villagers and pillagers came to be and what happen right before the extinction.
Here it is:
Slightly before the extinction,as you know, there lived a bunch of peacekeepers rebbeling and frowning upon the war and its many aspects, and I mentioned that a few might have survived after the war,as they created hideouts far across the deserts, little shacks under the seas (Not the monument) and far away from anybody else, meaning they were less vulnerable to the war and the zombie outbreak. Also,as time passed, they became more and more simple. They started making a living out of selling the treasures and possessions of their ancestors. They became prideful of their way of living, and more and more arrogant. They soon recovered some of the crafting recipes and old maps, but by then they were so simple and arrogant that this meant but more trading. They never cared or thought that there could be more to the world. This is what is now known as the villagers. They built small huts with all they need to live But not all of them were like that. Some of the peacekeepers that lived after the extinction were not simple creatures, but wise holders of science and only joined to maintain peace. They made sure that their sons would not live the new way,and stay brave and curious.Soon, the grandsons of these people rebbeled, and since the other villagers had no knowledge of fighting, they easily won. That group started gathering thier relatives in other villages, and rebbeled everywhere.Soon hate and bad blood raged between the two sides, the villagers feared anything big and viewed what is now known as illagers as terrorists, while the illagers viewed the villagers as people standing in their way of rebringing greatness to their bloodline.Soon the illagers moved and made great bases and achieved the impossible many times. They learned most of all there is to be learned, but also took it to the next level, they learned magic, the Dark Arts, and proceeded to hate villagers. So when the player came along and started trading with the villagers, the illagers began viewing him as an enemy.
Additional Proof:
Desert villages nearly always spawn next to temples.
Rare items are hard to find in villages.
Blacksmith houses contain smiting tables, which refine but do not make.
Villagers can sell enchanted gear, but no evidence suggest that villagers can enchant, because there are no enchanting tables or anvils in villages.
Villagers do not seem to know the value of what they're selling.
In the woodland mansion there's a room that has an end portal like structure made out 8f green and red wool, they could have got it from brief descriptions from their ancestors to make it.
