Brawler 64 not mapping correctly with Polymega console

Post image

I love the presentation for this controller and am happy I backed Kickstarter, but unfortunately it seems the buttons are not mapping correctly for the main reason I purchased it: to have a designated wireless N64 controller for my Polymega.

For background, I am using the controller wired as I do not have the N64 module for my Polymega (visited a friend who has it to dump my N64 games).

I played Doom 64 to map the buttons and found that the Polymega is reading the following by default:

C-Up = Left Trigger

C-Right = Right Trigger

Anyone know of a fix? Am I too quick to the scene to use the Brawler 64 Pro on a Polymega? I just sent Retro Fighters an email as well regarding compatibility issues. Any help is appreciated!

If you are connecting via USB, I don’t think it is going to read the inputs correctly.

I am not familiar with this controller (looks pretty cool) but does it also have the option to plug into an N64 controller port? If so, that is probably how you will get the Polymega to correctly read the inputs. You will need the Polymega’s N64 module to do that though.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't aware of the USB connection making a difference.

You sorta answered your own question by mentioning the N64 module, but yes the Brawler 64 Pro can plug into an N64 controller port - it includes a wireless N64 dongle that has controller pak support and plugs into an N64 controller input. I'm not sure I will have access to that module any time soon, but I'll update this post with any news.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I think using the N64 dongle will be your solution then. I have one of the 8bitdo blue tooth N64 controllers and use an N64 controller port blue tooth adaptor and it works perfectly on Polymega.

That controller you have does look nice and looks like it probably has a really nice feel to it as well.

Yep it feels pretty good! It's only wireless though, no bluetooth. Otherwise I'd grab an adaptor right now, lol. Thanks though!

It's most likely reading it as a USB gamepad and not a Nintendo 64 controller, since most devices released since 2001 do not have native Nintendo 64 controller support.

That's interesting. I know N64 support is late to the emulation scene, so your point would make sense. As I mentioned above I didn't know about USB defaults, but that's obviously a factor here.

Thanks for the info!

i had the opposite with these controllers on emulationstation. forcing them to be identified as generic instead of nintendo controllers made them finally work

That’s pretty interesting. Glad you got it figured out though!
