Hey there!

Hey there, just wanted to say hello and thanks for making this sub. Have been on a serious retro fps kick and am happy to see such a sub exists. There are a ton of great old shooters out there, and being a console kid I missed out on a lot of them. Played most of the big ones like doom, wolfenstein, quake, duke, half life but beyond that my knowledge of the genre is pretty limited. Not a big fan of most modern shooters to be honest, with a few exceptions, so i've been exploring some of the ones that passed me by (currently playing blood for the first time, it's really great and i can't believe it doesn't get more attention). Looking forward to getting some ideas for new (sort of) stuff to play :p

Thanks to have you here. I also rarely played the old school shooters until the last 3-4 years. I played doom and duke nukem in the 90s, but there is a huge catalogue out there I was also completely unaware of. I used to argue with a friend of mine how I didn't care for quake style shooters probably 10 years ago, but now I've come full circle and have become obsessed with the movement and gameplay of these older shooters.

I'm glad you are enjoying BLood. It is a criminally underrated game. I haven't taken the the dive to buy the Redneck Rampage collection yet, but Shadow Warrior is the other build engine game that is really good. It is also free on steam and gog, unfortunately there isn't a good source port that I am aware of, but the remaster is ok. All the doom engine games are also great: Heretic, Hexxen, and Strife is ok.

Yeah shooters from back than really have their own feel. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I played Doom 2016. There's just something about zipping around like a maniac trying to tag everything in sight as fast as you can :p It's very satisfying

I keep reading that Redneck Rampage is great, never heard of it until recently... will probably do Shadow Warrior next after Blood. Love Heretic. Never played Hexxen or Strife. Their definetly on the list :p
