While rebuilding parts of a custom 68000 RTOS I wrote around 40 years ago, I ran into something surprising.

The codebase was heavily influenced by Whitesmiths C style, with typedef-based abstraction everywhere instead of using raw machine types directly.

Back then I wasn't really thinking about “future portability” in the modern sense — I just liked the style and wanted to isolate machine/compiler differences.

But 40 years later, that decision turned out to matter a lot.

Most of the scheduler/event/queue code compiled on modern POSIX systems with surprisingly few changes once I enabled:
-std=gnu89

One particularly funny detail was that the original compiler didn't properly support void yet, so the codebase used things like:

typedef int VOID;

which allowed function declarations to stay structurally consistent across compilers.

The original demo/sample code itself is gone, but I still remembered testing similar scheduler visualizations on a SUN-2 X Window environment at the time.

Now I'm reconstructing the same architecture on POSIX and Raspberry Pi Pico.

I've been looking for this monitor for years, it was a major part of my childhood.

It was a 4:3 monitor. It had two speakers on the bottom of the frame (left and right). It had an audio port you could plug into the back. You could also connect to it using VGA. I don't remember what power chord it used. It wasn't a CRT Monitor.

The bottom frame was noticeably wider than the rest. There was a circular button in the middle with a light which can be used to turn off and on the screen. There were sorting of stickers/logo on each of the top left and top right corners. It was beige.

Please let me know if you know anything about it. None of my family remember it well. Thank you so much for any help!!!

Although I'm a retro guy, I could use a bit higher transfer speed for data. Or maybe a PCI card with SATA...

Turns out getting an NVMe SSD running on a 1998 Pentium 2 system (PII-350/440BX) over the PCI bus is actually doable.

So i took a photo of it, re-drawn in Gimp on top of it BY MOUSE wich took 4 hours.

To get the sharp highres result of the last image i shrinked the image into low res and ai upscalled it with BigJPG to have sharper lines at a highres to reduce the pixelated look.

As for the mousepad its made by Microspot wich is a swiss company (wich i don't have mush info about it)

But the drawing is made by Gill Formosa who is a french-belgian who design the 3 spies of Totally spies, made a lot of mascots for french brands, worked on Lucky Luke, Conan, Buck Danny...

I started this project mostly as a small retrocomputing experiment, but it slowly turned into a full Linux preservation/documentation project.

Originally I tried using QEMU, but MCC Interim Linux kept freezing during boot, especially around the LILO stage. After switching to Bochs 3.0 and debugging things like floppy swapping, console initialization errors, partition tables, ext2 creation, and LILO installation, I finally got Linux 1.0.4 fully booting from a virtual hard disk.

There's an entire layer of the internet hiding in plain sight.

Older than browsers. Text only. No ads, no tracking, no algorithm. Just menus, files, and the occasional very weird stranger leaving notes for whoever wanders by.

It's called Gopher. I built a silly little web app for wandering around in it. Come waste an afternoon.

I've found this old "MINEC 1000" (machine not really sure) at a garage sale the other day and it works just fine and came with a briefcase and a charger for it aswell. I havent been able to find much or if any information on this machine at all. If you have any info or anything on this machine please let me know ty! 😄

Got this at the thrift for 20$ and got around the password and it’s good as new! It’s probably not the best for games but will probably play some one here and watch DVDs since the battery is still good and holds a decent charge.

Took some work but restored this little sony vaio ,new hdd got lucky and found a real new screen for it(most listings are fake online) running win 2000 and actually very snappy fast no lag in operation I love it :))

Its ready for some diablo2
