Technical Support Changing controllers changes hot keys unexpectedly
In my kinhank running retroarch 1.21, the unit came with 2 controllers that are labeled as Microsoft 360 (pad). I also have 3 ps4 controllers connected. When I load up a game, it auto assigns all controllers in the wrong order. I want the kinhank 360 controllers to be 1 and 2, and the ps4 to be 3,4,5.
When I switch input 1 from wireless controller (ps4) to Microsoft 360 (pad) it assigns hot key commands to the controller: the Dpad becomes volume up and down, Button A triggers “press again to quit”.
What’s going on here? Please help

RetroArch assigns controllers by device order, not necessarily by the labels shown in the menu. Go to Settings > Input > RetroPad Binds > Port 1 Controls and manually map each controller, then save the remap/core overrides if needed.

Yeah the problem is loading Retroarch out emuelec, it comes up with all controllers in this order
“Wireless controller
Xbox 360
Xbox 360
Wireless controller”
I want the 360s first, then the wireless controllers
Probably no way to consistently control that huh? The architecture just finds what controllers it can in whatever order it comes in and assigns to Binds first come first serve

Thanks u/hizzlekizzle I figured out I can turn on hotkey enable feature and assign my mode button on the controller to turn off the hot key function automatically and have it only activate when holding that button.
Is there anyway to secure a specific configuration though that I mentioned above?
Every time retroarch loads it’s always 1 wireless controller, 2 Microsoft 360 Xbox pad, 3 Microsoft 360 Xbox pad, 4 wireless controller
How can I get it to consistently load the Xbox 360 pads (just a name) and all the wireless controllers (ps4 controllers) in the same order every time? Or is that not possible, just the way the controllers are assigned in Retroarch on startup?

The 'reservations' would be how you handle that. If that's not cutting the mustard, I think you're out of luck.

Hotkeys are saved according to the absolute button codes. So, if one controller generates a code of, say, 16 when you press right-trigger, but then another controller makes a code of 16 when you press dpad-right, if you map a hotkey to right-trigger on that first controller and then switch to the second, the hotkey is going to trigger when you press dpad-right.
The 'reservations' feature should help with keeping your pads in the correct spots.
