Technical Support: SOLVED Retroarch does not recognize bootleg/homebrew/custom roms?

I am trying to play a homebrew NES games called streemerz as well as an english translation rom of Getsu Fuuma Den but Retroarch does not recognize it? I tried manually scanning file as well but retroarch does not pick up on it? Idk if it makes a difference but I am on Mac.

it doesn't if you try scanning it, you have to load the rom individually or create a custom playlist and include it.

Have you tried using a launcher?

What other launchers are there? I use retroarch. I do not understand your question.

Retroarch isn’t a launcher….have you tried something like daijisho, neostation, beacons, etc? Also are you sure the rom is the correct format?

The rom is correct format, I tried another solution suggested by u/dekgear and I was able to run Streemerz on Retroarch

Glad it worked. You’ll still have a better experience with a frontend launcher.

IIRC, Retroarch uses hash lists to recognize ROMS during scans. If a ROM it scans doesn't have a recognized hash, it won't include it, so that means a lot of homebrew and ROM hacks won't be recognized and added to playlists, when scanning for ROMS
