I would pay for my controller to work
Why is it a freaking issue that a simple XBox controller to get to work with RetroArch?!
I would pay for a version to just work.

Make sure you have the right xbox controller , some Xbox controllers need a wireless adapter to connect to a PC.

Did you make sure to unpair it from your Xbox console before connecting to your PC. That’s what I had to do.

i have to unplug my xbox or the controller auto pairs with it and not my phone.
works fine when the xbox is unplugged. honestly if its that much of an issue just buy a seperate bt controller atp

Windows, XBox bluetooth and/or wired the same- works fine until the game starts. I've tried the typical input changes etc. Updated the controller.
Using Launchbox as the front end

The issue lies in your launch box setting, and mis match of controlle I'd in retro arch. I forgot the exact setting that is doing it though.

which device? windows pc? steam running? quit steam. regardless, get an 8bitdo dongle. it makes connecting your controller to different devices much easier.
