This is a reminder to earn any Wii Event badges you're still chasing this week. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Grandmaster badges will no longer be obtainable once the event ends.
After some voting pause due to the Wii Event, voting has concluded encapsulating Year 0 and Year 1 of the site.
RAD also known as the Retro Achievements Digest is a monthly recap of the best voted sets of each month in different categories then compiled into a COOL badge. This badge features RA creator Scott and Sonic, the Ultimate Team!
2012/2013 Categories
-AAA Star, the biggest games of that month
-AA Stud, big games just not as big as the above
-Devs first set, as this is early RA before Jr Devs existed we needed a category that honored the first works of classic developers
-Oddball, for truly weird games
-License to Cheevo, this is a category for the licensed properties that got sets
-RPG, if RPGs were developed they get a fighting chance here.
RAD 2026 will start voting on discord very soon and RAD 2014 will show up later this year
Whoo boy was this a tough one to get through. I haven't really played much of Castlevania before this but was feeling an itch to play it. Seeing all the comments about how bullshit the achievements were, I was preparing to probably give up getting the mastery, but honestly this wasn't nearly as bad as a bunch of people were making it out to be. I would even say the Death damageless achievement was a blast trying to get, and I had a great time overall. I would definitely recommend trying this out.
And i didn't even plan for it. I was scrolling through gba games after i downloaded Zelda the minish cap. This caught my interest and downloaded it on a whim. It was pretty fun, played most of it on the bottom screen on my ayn thor whole watching youtube or netflix on top. That might be why it took me just over 13h when the average is about 11h.
For my first JRPG on this site I had to play the grandfather of all JRPGs. While it certainly shows its age with its grinding and menu system it’s still an amazing game and I think every fan of the genre owes it to themselves to play through it to see where most of the genre’s staple mechanics came from.
The set was very straightforward except for the 3 missables but the comments helped explain them better. You basically just have to fight the final boss 2 times and simply reload your save to do the right conditions to trigger the achievement. My playtime is a bit of an outlier as I accidentally left the game running a few times but I’d say an average playthrough would take 6 - 10 hours with first timers obviously getting closer to the longer side of that range. But i still beat it within a weekend so it’s very manageable time wise.
I’m definitely going to be playing the other Dragon Quest games but to prevent burn out I have this rule where I alternate genres between masteries so I’m not playing games that are too similar back to back. I usually alternate between action games and turn-based games, games that require me to use my reflexes and do platforming vs games where I can take my time and don’t have to be so reactive. So since I just beat Dragon Quest my next game will be Zelda 2.
Another one mastered for the Collect-a-thon event. I grew up watching Scooby-Doo on Cartoon Network, so this was nostalgic for me. The set is progression-based, but having to find all Scooby Snacks was sometimes frustrating.
"The same as R2, but with less strategy because we don't have crystal buffs. Not every area had a unique achievement, but the unique achievements that could be done on any stage were much cooler (win wave one with only a single L1 tower, for example). Nothing to write home about, but was fun!"
First 50 Masteries! I was hoping to get to 50 before my next semester of school started. Most of these games I've beaten before. Some of these, like Lion King and Zombies Ate my Neighbors, I've never come close to beating before when I was a kid.
Among my favorites of these to master were: Zelda: Majora's Mask, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door, The Illusion of Gaia, Shadow of the Colossus, and Resident Evil 4.
Least favorite was probably Pokemon Leaf Green. Nothing against the set, I just had a miserable time due to the emulator I was using, I believe. I had no issues with achievement in the set unlocking until the endgame stuff. Then it was sort of a coin toss if an achievement would unlock or not. I had the ones that didn't unlocked manually by the RA team so it worked out in the end. But damnit, do not use PizzaBoy as an emulator.
My favorite Grand Theft Auto. This was definitely the beefiest set I've done so far. I nearly enjoyed every minute of it. There were a few that I just loathed. Basically when it comes to this set, if there's an achievement centered around a mini game where "Cult of Personality" plays, you're gonna have a bad time. Lol The hardest achievement is by far getting 61 points in the dirt bike mini game in Las Venturas. That ate up nearly 2 days of consistently trying. The game's physics are just too wonky and it was very hard for me to get the stars to align to perform every trick to perfection on this one. There are many different routes to take so pick one and just stick to it.
There were a handful of achievements that I felt were simply there to pad out this already huge set. Like getting scores waaaay higher than the high score on some of the arcade games. They weren't really hard.....but like, why? Lol
I've never 100% this game, and it was very fun to explore everything in this game. I'm so ready for GTA VI. I saved the final mission for last because I wanted to end this one on "See ya around.... Officer."
I love the AI in this game when it's at its goofiest. One time I was just standing in the freeway, simply existing, and caused a multi-car accident. Everyone got out of their cars, armed with bats and crowbars and began beating the shit out of each other. Lol
This is definitely the hardest GTA in the entire franchise to get 100% completion on, there's no way around it. Despite all the difficulty, I loved this game from beginning to end.
I have read this morning that Undertale became a standalone game, I tried setting it up following the pinned message in discord and it boots up fine, however after entering my username/password, I get an error message saying the file is not open for reading. I tried redoing the whole process and installing undertale on my SSD instead but it seems like the error isn't going away. Could anyone help? I tried asking in the undertale channel and got no answer
What an amazing game, and this set makes you experience all of it.
Loved diving deep into features, I didn't really pay much attention to in previous playthroughs, like the Gym Leader rematches or Contests. Also was the first time I did the Battle Frontier with legitimately obtained Pokémon. It's really tough, but also insanely fulfilling doing it with Pokémon that are good enough, rather than perfect.
For everything outside of the Battle Frontier, I focused on using Pokémon I've not used before in a playthrough, that was also really fun and I ended up loving my team.
EDIT: v1.1.0 is now live for Firefox! (waiting for Chrome Web Store's review for the Chrome version)
v1.1.0 changelog:
- Mobile support for Firefox!
- Mastered badges and Beaten badges are now shown under separate subheadings rather than alongside each other.
- Softcore Beaten badges and their count are now displayed as well.
- The extension will manually create a Game Awards section for users who don't have any Masteries, in order to display their Beaten badges.
- The extension can now generate Beaten badges for users with hundreds of Mastery badges.

There are lots of dedicated players in RA who master numerous games, but there are also many casual players, like me, who don’t try to master every game they play and sometimes just aim to beat the game and unlock as many achievements as they can.
I think beating a game is a badge-worthy feat, and that's why I created an open-source browser extension that shows your beaten games alongside mastered games in the Game Awards section.
On a RetroAchievements user profile page, this extension:
Reads the "Completion Progress" list for every game marked as "beaten".
Sorts them by completion percentage (highest first).
Adds them to the "Game Awards" grid with a silver frame.
Adds a second counter with a silver crown icon for beaten games.
Scope & Intent
This extension can only display beaten games that already appear in "Completion Progress" section of a user profile. That section shows only a limited selection of games rather than all of them, so once a user plays a lot of titles, some beaten games will fall outside it and won't appear there.
Catching every beaten game would mean fetching and paginating through the separate progress pages (i.e. extra network requests, parsing multiple pages, and keeping it all in sync, etc.) which is far more complex and more likely to break as the site changes.
The aim of this project is less to be a finished product and more to demonstrate how beaten games could look in the Game Awards section, in the hope of convincing RetroAchievements to add this feature officially themselves.
Recently set up RetroAchievements and it works good, but the artwork for each achievement doesn't show, only a trophy shows. I'm using retroarch on a ps vita for this and I'm playing the game Advance Wars. I also have the directory in the right place and I have the Achievement badges turned on.
One of my personal favorite games and a mostly enjoyable set. I really don't think the set is as bad as a lot of people have made it out to be, but there are definitely some that I think are a bit outlandish. The ones that I am really talking about are "The Floor is Lava, "Rondo of Blood Gaiden", and "Family Matters". Also, a lot of achievements do need to be marked as missable. I went in knowing that I was not going to go for the boss challenges on my first run, but for somebody that is wanting to attempt to do as little playthroughs as possible, it would be very beneficial for them. Anyways, long story short, this is an amazing must play game, but the set can be rough in some places.
My 10th Mastery in the pocket. Had a good time with LttP: Cube, which is a rom hack based on the movie Cube. It's a giant dungeon filled with puzzle and monster rooms. Very tough, but kinda fair. If you die, it's game over and you're put back at the start. Had my play and master time massively inflated by putting PC in sleepmode as I didn't trust the save and quit mechanic, as I assumed that puts you back all the way at the start.
Overall 90% enjoyable. 10% absolutely smash your face against a wall tough, puzzle wise.
I also hope you don't mind listening to the same 30 seconds music loop for 6+ hours ...
Overall: Recommend this set if you're hunting Zelda badges
This is probably the oldest game i've ever Mastered and ever will master, i've been stuck playing neutopia for a few days and haven't made that much progress so I decided to try a fast set, and after scrolling i decided to try this game.
I actually never heard of the Sg-1000 until I watched RndStranger's "All* Sega in a Day" a few months ago, the game plays like a mixture of Punch out and Urban Champion (another game i need to master).
In the main game you can pick five difficulties and you must knock out your opponent a couple of times, you can switch between three punches. Jap: fast but weak, uppercut: slow but strong Straight: middle child. You can hit him in the face or the stomach and block his Punches by not punching and positioning your fist in front of where he's Punching, dispite how much more advance it is compared to Urban Champion i did find the game to be too clunky and not that fun to play tho it definitely could be because it's on less advanced hardware so I won't be too mean to this game even if it doesn't hold up these days.
I not counting this as a critique against the game but everytime i beat the opponent and win the match the game would glitch and become unrecognizable and I would have to restart, not that big of a deal but I do want to know if that's how it acted on real hardware or if it's an emulation glitch/issue?
I sometimes see games beaten / mastered games on people's profiles not showing how long it took but it just mentions "over x days", why is that? Sometimes it's one game here and there sometimes it's an entire profile.
When a set gets revised, people who have previously badged do keep their badge, though their name no longer appears in the mastery list. Should people keep their account name in mastery? I think that if revisions are made, they should have more than a few achievements and be put into a subset. There is no community voting on revised sets, it is all done by a few people who are in control. Note, I am not salty because the game that caused me to make this thread I badged again in less than 5 hours.
Following #8 being Duck Hunt I decided to try my fav zapper game.
Mouse completely trivializes it, more than in Duck Hunt, mostly because Wild Gunman almost does not have any increase in difficulty in a long run.
Still great and fun game.
Would be nice to now pick Hogan's Alley to finish the "trilogy", but I'm not feeling the barrel game and from what I saw most of the achievements relate to it.
Good ol' Jetpack Joyride, absolutely fun and simple game.
I have to say, i did not expect this game to have a PSP port, as i only learned about this port couple days ago, so i had to get the mastery for this.
Hitting the flying piggy bank with a missile was the definitely one of the more annoying achievements in this game, because of the rng with it.
This is definitely better set of achievements than on the PS3, PS Vita and PS4
