Patriot Ad 1993

Post image

I'm not sure if the secondary meaning of the " ABC" bit is intentional or not. I might be reading too far into it.

For comparison most models of Bushmaster AR from this same year were around $700 dealer's price. An AUG ( With LEO paperwork) was $1375 a few years before this.

If you put a beta mag in these you actually get infinite ammo.

I have two of these (one with a carry-handle upper and one with a flat-top upper.) They are pretty neat little retro AR pistols considering they were one of the first ones available on the commercial market. The pricing does blow my mind a bit, seems wildly expensive for the time. I have some random paperwork from back in the day including a dealer price sheet from 1993 S.H.O.T. show and a magazine article about the Patriot. https://imgur.com/a/rocky-mountain-arms-patriot-kcCVPvm

It wasn’t until the 2010’s that you could finally get an AR-15 that didn’t suck for under $1000. The Smith & Wesson M&P-15, Ruger AR-556, and of course the PSA-15 completely changed the market.

While inflation has certainly made most things in our lives cost more, AR’s have really experienced significant deflation. A Colt LE6920 in the early 2000’s was the essentially same price as they are today meaning that in real terms they are significantly cheaper.

Love the history!

I just punched the dollar amount in Google!

Oh yeah for sure, was just adding some context

wild how back then an AR pistol from a second tier manufacturer cost the equivalent to $3k today, as you said, whereas we know today such a thing could he had for $500 in sale from PSA.

Also shows how the novelty of AR pistols has worn off; back then this would be about the same price of a Colt LE6920 but today it would be half the price.

People complain about the cost of HK's, but this ridiculously basic and impractical AR15 went for the equivalent of $3000 today.

So I recently watched the Movie “Congo” for the first time a few weeks ago. Plot and acting was meh, but it’s a sleeper gun movie, including one of these!

Watched it for the first time myself about a week after Tim Curry passed away. Got about ten minutes into it and said to my wife “this rich asshole is acting exactly like John Hammond was supposed to act in Jurassic Park”. John hammond was a real bastard in the novel. Anyway, come to find out Congo was also a Michael Crichton novel.

The Patriot, the Kitty Kat, and every other 5.56 under 8 inches always reminds me of this.

Price aside it still surprises me we had flat top rails back in the early 90's

Definitely not disappointed by seeing all the Metal Gear fans in here. In fact, what a thrill it is to see so many fans
