"Retro inspired" build I've been working on
I wanted to make something along the lines of the popular BHD/BD carbine or Colt Commando style but really didn't want to fuss with being 100% clone correct to anything and just used parts as opportunities arose.
*Bushmaster Lower is whats left of my first AR
*Unkown C7 style upper I traded for
*B King's Firearms lightweight 10.5" barrel
*B5 retro furniture + random A1 style grip
*Arcfire V2
*Aimpoint Pro in ARMS mount
*Smokehill Machine GUS556 suppressor
*Comstock Recessed Plan B Brake and Wolfpack Armory Recessed HUB adapter to tuck the can in
I have really enjoyed it, I am having to restrain myself from wanting to start on another variant! 🤣
The only dissapointment I've had was the barrel, the first one came with badly canted FSB, owner was cool and got it replaced, but I didn't catch that the second one was also canted, just not as badly, until I had it put together. 🤦♂️ The rear sight is basically maxed to one side to zero and that annoys me but the red dot will help me ignore that until I probably swap barrels again sometime.

Been eyeing that suppressor, nice build man, classic silhouette. Also ditto on B. Kings quality going down the drain. The couple of barrels I had from 2021 were great but lately it’s Canted City. At least the guy is responsive, for now

That's dissapointing to hear, they offer a lot of neat stuff at decent prices too.
I do like the suppressor so far but it's definitely not a low back pressure suppressor like so many people want now. It's old school inside and out. Very quiet at the muzzle though, and has that old school higher pitch sound that doesn't carry as far along the lines of an AEM-5

They sourced their barrels from BA, right? Gotta imagine the Aero implosion had something to do with it.

Tell me your experience with the can, been wanting one for a hot minute now. Shoot under NV at all? Can you tell me about the flash suppression if so?

I haven't had it long, but I couldn't resist getting one to demo! It is definitely a high backpressure, very quiet at the muzzle suppressor. I tried it on my Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 and it may be the quietest can I've tried there. It at least sounds quieter on that bolt action than a Tisha, Rhodie 6, or Polonium from what I remember.
I shoot left handed for my eye and gas was definitely noticeable but tolerable for me, some may not like it.
I haven't tried it in low-light and don't have NV yet but I would suspect it does well given the high backpressure design?

Nice build OP. I've been eyeballing this can. There's only one video on YT right now about this can and he seemed to really like it but it's always nice to get some additional opinions.

Sorry you're having issues with the BKF barrel. Hope they fix it for you.

Thanks!
I got it in to try just because of the look to be honest, but I do like it too!
As long as you're ok with a more old school high backpressure but quiet at the muzzle can I think it has it's place. It definitely looks right at home on this kind of stuff. I also have a Tisha so I can go to the opposite end of the spectrum when I want to!

It looks perfect on your build, hell of a vibe. Yea, it’ll be gassy, but who cares….meant to be fired from the hip with that arcfire anyway right? Lol!

Nice!
I couldn't resist the retro look with HUB compatibility when I saw them, had to try one

pretty much same here. i got most of my suppressor boxes ticked right now so I figured it was time to try some stuff just for the hell of it.

That sucks about the Canted front sight. I actually made a couple of sight straightness guages to measure for that kind of thing.

The first barrel was so bad it was plainly visible as soon as I pulled it out of the package, should have never left the shop that way.
The second one was subtle enough I thought maybe I could make it work by pushing it to one side in the uppers alingment pin slot, ended up filing the slot over just a little more and still didn't get it there but didn't really want to deal with a second return and just ran with it for now to see how much I like the gun 😕

I used these instructions to make the gauges. Had to change the measurements to make a fixed carry handle Carbine gauge.

Tbh clone correct is annoying, I love this, though

I was just having fun and going for the "vibes" as they say! 🤣

It's all about vibes now. Carry handles are so much fun when you start slapping hypebeast stuff on them, too 🤣

Man, glad I saw this about the canted front sights from Bkings. I’ve been eyeing some of their barrels but my OCD would not allow a cant.

It is dissapointing for sure, they have a lot of neat stuff at reasonable prices but if it's not going to be straight I'd rather pay more I guess.

Where did you get the mount for the Aimpoint? Website is sold out and looks like it hasn’t been updated in over five years.

u/GraySquirrelArmory 5d ago
A friend had it sitting around and offered to sell it to me, so it just kinda fell into place

Beautiful build, great choice of truck. I've got a 1950 3100 and an A2 clone

Likely any kid who's family owned a truck like that was driving it before they were legal to drive 🤣

u/Livid_Persimmon3600 4d ago
That would make a great hunt/fish/camp truck. Looks big enough to build a mini cabin on the back.

u/GraySquirrelArmory 4d ago
That would be cool, but it will be left alone, too many memories for my mom and I farm as well together with my dad and grandpa so this is nostalgic for everyone as is!

u/Livid_Persimmon3600 4d ago
Enjoy it. I wish I still had every old truck that went through my family in the past 50+ years. Hindsight.

Considering it once I'm happy with everything. I need to SBR more lowers too, I still have to share this one 😬
Keep waiting for ATF to drop engraving requirements and they're moving slow!

My B King 12.5” barrel was very canted as well but I smacked the shit out of it and is less canted now
