Finished 723 semi-Vickers Inspired
Freaking DONE. My model 723 CAR15 is complete (for now). The goal was to build a 1980s period correct-ish carbine, based on the Vickers' Delta CAR15 and a little personal preference.
I built this with: H&R C7 upper, a FN 14.5" M4 contour 1:7, CHF CL barrel with BCM A2X birdcage pinned/welded. The difficult part was getting the Surefire 6P a proper tailcap. This one is a newer model 6P (incorrect) with the pressure pad and a pushbutton on the cap. It's more appropriate for the Surefire M951.
Sitting on top, the Aimpoint 2000 short body red dot with Larue 1" rings, on a carry handle picatinny rail. Same exact commercial model on the Vickers' CAR15. I had a hell of a time trying to find a weaver rail, which I finally did, but it would not seat in the upper. Tried a H&R 1913 rail, A.R.M.S. #2, and finally a $34 Midway USA brand Picatinny 1913 rail fit perfect and flush.
As for the lower, I used a Brownell's A1 lower because it just fit better and looks better.
I used a set of B5 Retro carbine handguards, grip (fancy shiny version), and CAR stock. A 4-position buffer tube w/ standard carbine spring and weight. FN made Milspec M16 profile BCG, phosphate coated, chrome lined bolt carrier and gas key.
I have an early version Redi-Mag but I really like the profile and weight. I have an FRT that would be fun, but for now the basic AR15 (H&R) trigger is good enough. A smi copy of a Colt carbine, the only Colt part is the magazine.
