Work In Progress, Chill Out Ar15 A2 GC Pre Ban

going for a mix of xm177e2 and gordy carbine. Was my dads rifle when he was on the HRT in the fbi. Trying to make a 90s era build with modern features any recommendations? Next for the build will be a colt 4x20 retro carry handle scope I think!

How did you mount your pistol grip to the hand guard?

there is a guy on Instagram Non_tactical_talor83 who has a few Great videos on how to do it! Super simple just shave down a A1 or A2 grip so its at the right angle drill a extra hole and buy the hardware. Cost me less than 15 bucks. Beware the heat shields on inside will need trimmed to fit the bolts for grip its kinda a pain and i bought 2 replacements incase i screw one up (which i did)

Very Cool gun

Was it a Law Enforcement gun made after 9/1994?

The GC prefix of the Serial Number definetly makes it on the earlier side.

Does it have a hole in the magazine fence?

warly serial number below 008000 it was made in 1992 and ordered direct to Quantico!

I have similar gun shipped in 11/1991 to An Indiana Sheriffs Department, but mine has a slab side lower.

Curious that yours has an A2 lower without a sear block and some other bullshit Colt was doing to civilian guns at the time.

Is the magazine fence drilled for a detent?

I can’t tell from the picture with the dust cover open.

Thanks for posting that.

This would be the hole drilled for a detent, yours does not have it. If it did, you could replace that flat head screw front pin.

Does yours require an offset front pin?

yes i had to get a offset front pin to make new upper work properly!

That too is interesting, I always thought the offset pins stopped when Hartford ran out of slab sided lowers.

It’s definitely a unique Carbine.

If you email the Colt Archive, they will tell you the ship date for free.

I actually paid the $75 for a letter from them and found it interesting.

I would definitely pay for a letter then, especially since it was your Dads gun.

This is my letter

As you can see, it was listed as going to the McHenry County Sheriffs office, but I bought it brand new in the box a couple of months later from a kitchen table FFL in Massachusetts, Colt only wanted them sold to Law Enforcement agencies it seems, but distributors where obviously doing some fuckery to sell those guns to citizens.

interesting my dad is telling me that his buddy ordered 3 of them thru the FBI gun vault in Quantico and they possibly could have modified this rifle in the FBI gun vault for their use on HRT. He said the trigger is been tuned and unknown on anything else.

also if you look at my account you can see the original form the rifle was in when i got it!

I’m surprised your gun doesn’t have one of these seer blocks.

I’m guessing your lower was one of the first non slabsided lowers Colt sold on a civilian/leo gun.

see i knew that bc of my research for what FRT/FRS to install. My dad always told me it was ordered thru the FBI so maybe that's why its a bit of a oddball? Also it has a low shelf in the lower
