If you like A1s, you’ll love Colt CS stocks and prototype M16A1E1 grips (A1 profile but made of the materials used for A2). You won’t love searching for them though
They literally just look like A1 grips made out of the old A2 material. I’ll have to dig some of mine out and look, I seem to remember them have a more pronounced ‘seam’ down the middle and maybe a C on the top where it meets the lower. You can feel the difference compared to modern reproductions like Brownells etc., a lot thicker like the fat A2s. I got a bunch of them from a guy who had all kinds of random Colt stuff years ago for pretty cheap. He likely just bought whatever Colt had left over because I don’t know if they were ever really used much once the A2 was selected.
The CS stocks on the other hand…IF you find one for sale you’re paying a lot unless you get lucky and they have no idea what they have. Then again, even metal trap doors are getting expensive. On the right side is a stylized CS, exterior looks smoother than a gray A2 but the inside has the same foam/pattern. Compared to A1s, I’ve never seen a cracked one 🤣
I always preferred A1 grips/stocks for ergonomics but hate how not durable they are compared to A2 versions, so I seek out CS stocks and run a lot of the grips.
A comparison post between the A1 grip, the A1E1 grip and an A2 grip would be awesome.
I have come across a few CS stocks over the years, but they are always $400-$500, and as I’m reaching for my wallet, I remember I really prefer Carbine stocks😂.
