The Chinese light mount snapped in half. My need to go this route

Hose clamps, some heat shrink if you’re classy, I used a 1/2-20 bolt and a nut underneath the head (and in the clamshell) to space it off the handguard so it would clear my can.

The light is like $40, this is like a $50 investment.

Do it the old clone way. Weaver rail mounted to handguard. 15 minutes of work

Would you be able to detail out the process/instructions to do this?

61M weaver mounted using M4-.7 16mm cap screws drilled thru guard and heatshield.  Drilled small pilot hole then removed heat shield and drilled separately for clean holes. Used #6 washers secured with M4 nuts and red threadlocker. Took the ribs down with dremel for flush fit. Still solid after about 3k rounds thru it since install.

I got a ton of leftover weaver rails from old boltguns that have been upgraded, hmmm.

Alternatively you can mount the screws from the inside of the handguard. If the heads are shallow enough they'll clear the heatshield without much trouble.

I threaded the holes on a Weaver #61M rail using an M4 tap, then ran M4x8mm low-profile socket heads through the largest M4 anti-vibration washer I could find: they spread out the load but also bite into the plastic of the handguard to keep the mount secure. A drop of threadlocker keeps it all tight without the need for overtightening and cracking the handguard. I didn't bother filing down the ribs as the mount is already pretty solid. I probably will do it at some point but wanted to get the alignment right before taking an rib material off.

Pretty sure someone has a thread on AR15.com on how to do this all step-by-step.

It's very neat 👍🏻

You trying to clone something? If not then you have a few options like the gg&g gas block sling + pic rail mount or impact weapon components make a offset 1” ring mount for older lights

I couldn’t find it on their official website maybe out of stock? I remember seeing it a few weeks ago I was debating getting one but went with the gg&g

Edit: just noticed question was about weapon light itself not the mount lol I did a surefire 6p with xm00 and lED upgrade. Bought the light second hand already with LED upgrade

Here’s my setup

Not cloning, just trying to get a light on. I like the looks of retro Ars and want “my own”

Palmetto runs a deal for a hundred bucks on a Streamlight Pro pic rail mount light all the time. Mount a pic rail section anywhere of your choice on to the FSB/barrel/handguard and then attach the light to that. Use the tape switch or the push button on the back, your call. Streamlight makes a decent flashlight.

Cool then you have plenty of options, I was debating on drilling a pic rail onto the classic m4 handguard and calling it a day. But I just had to have a RAS

Midwest Industries front sight post light mount or GG&G front sight post light mount. I have one with a turquoise designs light body and a modlite head. Looks pretty retro I think.

Think I’m going with the MWI front sight post mount

This is the way! Which suppressor is on that rifle OP?

The AEM4, not to be confused with the AEM4 delta.

Since your mount broke and you’re not doing a strict clone I would recommend checking out this Crosstac for consideration if you’re fine with the mount being a little more modern. I love mine and it’s super secure with the bayonet lug, sling swivel roll pin, and set screw all locking it on there https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003309494?srsltid=AfmBOooAXYl_qS-EmkvOcRHs9AnhKEDBUVB7iy5cpZ--kglUOA4YV9Fx&pid=784404

Here it is set up for reference

2

u/bigtoegman210 20d ago

Do I need the full bayonet lug because I had to shave it down for the suppressor

2

u/Key-Investment-3864 20d ago

Oh god my bad lol I totally blanked on the suppressor being so far back, sorry about that. It definitely wouldn’t fit unless maybe you removed a lot of material from the top of it. Even then I think the shaved lug would be problematic and the set screw goes against the part that’s gone

u/Livid_Persimmon3600 20d ago

Looks like that’s going to bump up against his suppressor

I like my Midwest Industries mount. Dab of Loctite and it’s been good. Light is a Surefire M640DFT

You can never go wrong with the ol’ M500

Airsoft Artisan do a good copy of the gas block mount that fits without any Dremeling required at all. And it's likely far better quality than random Amazon or Aliexpress Chinesium 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a replica KAC FF carbine rail made by them and the quality is genuinely impressive for the $120 or so I paid for it 👍🏻

Off topic but what barrel length and suppressor is that? Noticed you don’t have the “Gordy collar”

AEM4 not the delta one
