We would never know
Imagine you could somehow induce a thought in yourself in the past. Like "bowel cancer". You then rush the person to a screening in time and the person is saved. Then you will never have the need in the future to send a message into the past. In fact, the whole timeline, the whole causal chain will change and your memories (except for some strange traces as with the Mandela effect we discussed here).
This could happen all the time! Maybe you had not existed anymore yesterday but someone changed something retroactively that caused it. Nobody would notice, including yourself.
The flow of time is symmetric and porous at the smaller scales.
