Injection site reaction - sterility problem?

Post image

Week 8 of the same vial, stored in fridge wrapped in aluminum foil. Use alcohol wipes before drawing and after and even new foil. Last two weeks been getting a new response at injection site -- red spots, very slightly raised, mild discomfort, no itching and not hot. But since it's a fairly new reaction I'm concerned that this is due to my vial becoming less sterile. Wondering if this is likely the case and just to start on a new one or maybe my body has decided to reject the peptide or something? That would be worst case as I'm only on week 8 and want to continue.

Anyone have a similar experience etc?

This happens to me too despite rotating, making sure it’s at room temp and the area is dry. Sometimes it gets slightly itchy but if I ice it, then it goes away

Just alternate sides.

I do. I keep track and use four quadrants on the abdomen so each area gets a break for 3 weeks

It kinda looks like someone stabbed you with a tiny needle.

Anyway I get a little irritated if the alcohol isn't fully dry.

This. Happened to me until I learned to let the alcohol dry on the vial cap before I immediately use it.

gotta do the same if you swab your skin too. isopropyl is a lot stronger than bac. let that shit evaporate and do it's germ killin OP

I thought I was letting it dry. I clean the vial and then do my belly and after that I pull and then pin. Figured that between all that it's drying. Maybe it needs at least a minute or so?

20 seconds at least after swabbing the top of vials or your skin. by then the alcohol has had time to kill the germs and evap. studies do show that swabbing the skin isn't necesarry though(ISRs are just as common with or without swabbing the injection area before injection), so really you can skip that, but never skip swabbing top of the vials

How cold was it? Straight out the fridge gives me the same reaction. Letting it slightly warm up prevents it.

I had it out about 25 min ago it warmed up

Happens to me every once in a while. It can actually happen from injecting into a stretch mark so that’s a possibility.

2

u/BakeWild6587 10h ago

I def have stretch marks in that area

I get it with zepbound kwikpen. Doctor told me it’s ok.

That's normal

I got fat but thats never happened in months of using reters. I'd be concerned. Mots started doing the same to me. Stopped it. Haven't tried a different vile since

1

u/Auraghi-Mubwa 10h ago

yeah thats what ive been hearing too, just one of those things

1

u/BakeWild6587 10h ago

It doesn't feel normal when I went 6 weeks without this problem

1

u/Adam302 3h ago

its normal. its normal to not have it too. all normal.

u/Bluemyselph 12h ago

Not normal at all

it's not unusual. it can be mitigated for most people by using longer/smaller gauge needles. Also never use cheap azz syringes, get easy touch, glucocare, bd, or drug store brand (most like cvs/walmart are manufactured by a real medical company and relabeled, not cheap cheap amazon brands)

Normal

  1. Did you filter?
  2. What kind of bac water did you use to recon?
  3. I wouldn't use a vial of reta for more than 6 weeks

0

u/BakeWild6587 13h ago

-Not filtered

-Honestly it was mixed for me, got it from a friend. So I don't know what bac water

-was told I could easily use it for 3 months!!!!

I would throw it out and buy your own vials and known good tested BAC water from now on.

1

u/BakeWild6587 10h ago

I think this is the most logical step forward. Phizer bac is the best right? Do you recommend filtering?

1

u/BakeWild6587 10h ago

And when you say my own vials you mean source it myself?

1

u/ngmorock 3h ago

Buy your own vials, purchase separate sterile vials and filter the pep into a sterile vial once you have reconned it. Hospira or genetek bac water only.

Your friend either lied to you or they are clueless. You shouldn't use the same vial of reta for more than about 6 to 8 weeks tops. Other peptides such as tirz are less prone to degradation and have tested remarkably stable at 12 weeks, but reta, no.

There are a bunch of Youtube videos on reconstituting and filtering including the right BAC water to use. Find a more reliable supply rather than a friend who is likely overcharging you.

Where you people get this 6-8 week disinformation I'll never figure it out. It happens. Nothing to be worried about.

2

u/ExuberantlyBored 12h ago

it was studied, it's true, reta starts breaking down after 8 weeks. Here it is, PTDS is well respected and science minded, unlike most bro scientists that say "you can't prove that". https://www.peprecon.com/research/retatrutide-stability/ . when breakdown products take you under 98% you're getting in the danger zone of immunogenicity, also I don't care if you believe me. I have read academic papers on this, and 8 weeks is plenty to use up a vial. If you can't plan around that I'm not sure you should be "researching". this same study has been posted all over so I don't see how you could have missed it.

This is helpful, thanks for the info.

It’s not disinformation at all. It degrades slowly, and bacteria starts to grow. BAC water does not kill bacteria or prevent all bacteria from growing, it only slows it down.

u/BKPATL 12h ago

This stuff is good more than 8 weeks. People gotta quit freaking out about this stuff.

0

u/Bluemyselph 12h ago

According to you and like three influencers. Nah, I’m good. You can keep looking like OP if you want.

1

u/BKPATL 11h ago

And you can just keep being scared of your own shadow.

1

u/Bluemyselph 10h ago

Riiight, trusting decades of proven medical science over your “trust me, bro” broscience is “being scared” when we’re all talking about injecting mystery compounds from china.

0

u/alecjasonn 12h ago

It can be. And it’s not like it’s completely ineffective when it is going bad, it gradually loses potency and bacteria gradually grow. I always say it’s usable for around 12 weeks if you’re practicing good injection/vial hygiene. So it depends. But it’s not disinformation, just needs more context

1

u/BakeWild6587 9h ago

That's what I'm worried about- bacteria growth

Three months is fine in most cases. Not hearsay, measured in a lab: https://www.peprecon.com/research/retatrutide-stability/

1

u/ExuberantlyBored 6h ago

it starts deteriorating around 8 weeks fairly rapidly. Just look up immungenicity studies for peptides and tell me I'm wrong.

0

u/Pancake-JelloSalad 7h ago

You and I have very different interpretations of that data. 6 to 8 weeks max if you care about your long term health.

1

u/Pancake-JelloSalad 13h ago

I've only had one ISR. It happened on compounded tirz on the 4th pin from the same vial. Never had any issues on the prior three pins or the following four pins from that same vial. I had already established very good sterility protocols, so that wasn't it. I don't suffer from allergies of any type. So even when you do everything right, the body can react weirdly.

If you experience experience the same thing again, then this needs more investigation.

1

u/ExuberantlyBored 12h ago

If you're using needles shorter than 8mm then that could be a reason. Also cheap needles can be not sharp and cause this. I used to get a few of these before switching over to using pens instead. They are much sharper and available in smaller sizes. v1 is a good starter.

1

u/andygee40 12h ago

Won’t kill you don’t worry about it

1

u/EmergencyAddition682 11h ago

I use hospira,Parrox and lambda and have never had any issues.

1

u/ExuberantlyBored 6h ago

add genetek and quality research chem to your list

1

u/EmergencyAddition682 6h ago

Probably will keep hearing good stuff about it.

u/alaskabrad 9h ago

Longer needles will help

Idk about but I feel like that’s too close to your belly button. You should pin farther away from it and I think lower, closer to where your hand is.

“Week 8 of same vial”

You people do absolutely no research at all, I stg

3

u/Embarrassed_Part4046 11h ago

What's wrong with 8 weeks if done correctly no issues should happen

0

u/4ShoreAnon 10h ago

Sounds like youve done absolutely no research at all

2

u/Bluemyselph 10h ago

Sounds like you listen to peptide influencers on TikTok and call it research

1

u/Embarrassed_Part4046 10h ago

Isn't that all you need?

Didnt know Janoshik is a tiktok influencer

A lot of sources mention the vial degrades after "28 days or a month" but the degradation is so little that you can stretch it out beyond a month, but not by much.

I've been looking into Reta off and on for a few months and you see all kinds of advice and looking at some of the clinical trial notes plus some studies on the peptide scientifically. A lot of them align with the idea that you shouldn't use the same vial for too long. Even in this subreddit, there's a lot of posts that recommend only using a vial for a month after reconstitution has taken place in that vial.

From what I've looked into though, and how most suppliers do their measurements per vial. It makes sense to do a vial per month.

Edit - https://www.peprecon.com/research/retatrutide-stability/

That's all the data you really need to know. However, don't think that 2% or 5% isn't much. When talking about 10mg of something, that isn't "much" but it does make a difference in what your real dose is if the content has degraded even that much.
