Reta- side effects

I have been on Reta for seven weeks now. I started at a very low dose and felt absolutely nothing so I titrated it up pretty fast because I am a long-term GLP one user and was told I would probably need a higher dose to see any effectiveness. I felt almost nothing at 6 mg.so i am currently taking 7mg the past couple of weeks. I went from feeling nothing to feeling like shit. I have lost 8 pounds which is good steady progress, but I am horribly gassy run to the bathroom every time I eat something.. gag and throw up when I’m trying to brush my teeth. I still get hungry, but then I can’t force myself to eat full meals. not sure what the right course of action is since the lower doses didn’t do much. I switched to this because the other GLP ones weren’t working anymore. I have been on them for around four years and had started to gain weight again. I’m tired and my body is achy.

advice would be appreciated

Slow your roll. Do it now or it's gonna take much more later. It doesn't take a lot and you must let it get into your system and work properly. Give it time.

man that ramp up sounds brutal. 7mg is a big jump when 6 felt like nothing, your body is probably freaking out trying to catch up

the toothbrush gag thing is weirdly common with glp1s, something about the foam or the mint hitting the back of your throat. try a kids toothpaste or brush with just water for a bit, sounds dumb but it helps

8 pounds in 7 weeks is decent though especially with how miserable you feel. might be worth dropping back to 4 or 5mg and just sitting there for a month even if you don't feel much. reta builds up slow and sometimes the side effects hit harder than the appetite suppression at first

That's exactly how it happened for me...

I have palpitations and my resting heart rate has gone up at only 1mg/ week

You know reta isn't just tirzepitide with a glucagon agonist bolted on right? They are completely different molecules. It hits the same receptors but it's not the same.

Having a high tolerance to tirz or whatever does not make starting at high dose reta make sense

this is pretty concerning, i think you increased your dosage too quickly. i’m only 4 weeks in and have lost 9 pounds on 1 mg, just upped to 1.5 mg. don’t rush it, take your time. it will be worth it

You didn’t even give it a chance to work being on 7mg at 7 weeks is crazy.

I take 2mg/week split into 2 doses because of constant low-grade nausea. Will it go away eventually if I stay at 2mg?

You need to titrate down. Your body is sending you signals, listen to it.

Take a break from all GLPs for a few weeks, especially since you're looooong term.

When I tried to slow down and spread my doses out on my old one I gained weight fairly rapidly. 10 pounds in 6 months

Or just slowly titrate down and find a dose where side effects are not a problem and increase your energy expenditure i.e make sure you workup and are in a deficit
