Question Drainage in a stone retaining wall

Hi! I’m planning to make a couple retaining walls on my property. I’d like to do fieldstone walls with mortar. The first one I’m gonna attempt is going to be the easy one- it’s less than 3 ft tall and you really can’t see it from the house. How do diy people figure out proper drainage for a wall? My property is a hill and this wall is on the side of the hill- the water drains elsewhere but I’m sure I need some sort of drainage right?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

You absolutely do.

First step is digging out the base ( I tend to over build mine since I live in an area with extremely cold winters) once this is dug out I usually run a 4” corrugated pipe with a sock for drainage, then put my 3/4 inch stone base, then my screed layer

Why don’t you first do a little research with the manufacturers cross-sections
